<p>09:25 &#8211; I know a lot of people overthink it, and then because they overthink it, they end up really stalled with paralysis by analysis. So I&#8217;ve got to do this, go do that, I haven&#8217;t got time for this. I&#8217;m gonna, you know, start next month and I think that&#8217;s it is very simple and the thing that I think people want to do before anything, and I&#8217;ve been doing it since I was a junior bodybuilder, sort of 16-17 years old and I&#8217;ve been I&#8217;m 52 now. So I&#8217;ve been doing it for all my life pretty consistently, I&#8217;m a little bit of an anomaly. But I think for the average person that hasn&#8217;t done that consistently for years and years and years, then really, the most important thing that you need to focus on is creating a habit, where you&#8217;re gonna fit some kind of activity, or movement into your life. I&#8217;ve not actually met any people that have not been able to create a habit of cleaning their teeth, at least in the morning, and when they get up and before they go to bed in an evening.</p>
<p>20:30 &#8211; For whatever reason, everybody is obsessed, relationships break down for it, everything is really driven about people&#8217;s desire for money, what they think money is going to give them.</p>
<p>31:00 &#8211; We&#8217;ve got a pretty decent process and we&#8217;re predominantly business to business. So we work with a lot of gyms trainers, we we have a small part which is direct to consumer, but predominantly, it&#8217;s going into clubs. Most of that gives us the ability to plan out a little bit further than people who kind of want to just purchase things immediately.</p>
<p>35:00 &#8211; I never thought I&#8217;d ever get into unofficially designing my own space. I mean, to be fair, actually, I love the fact you guys actually do design services, which is super cool.</p>
<p>40:00 &#8211; You got yoga combined with spinning, boxing, etc. So you got to think of how you&#8217;re going to really differentiate yourself. There&#8217;s a lot of ways that you can do that, obviously. But a lot of people react to the simple things, I used to be a boxer, and I like boxing, and I know some friends do too, etc. So I&#8217;m going to open a boxing gym but then what.</p>

<p>I&#8217;ll just remind them of what I said at the beginning. I suppose you think that there&#8217;ll be a time where you&#8217;ll figure out how to make health and fitness important in your life. I&#8217;ve interviewed probably two or three-hundred very successful people in all areas, not just fitness, but in many different areas in business and I think consistently the one thing that that really separates those from anyone else is just finding where that fits into your life. But putting it before everything else in your hierarchy of things to do,  stick fitness at the top. I think if you can make that a habit then you&#8217;ll find that dealing with all the other stuff that life throws at you on a regular basis including preventing yourself from getting totally destroyed from whatever pandemic happens and everything else that is out there, you won&#8217;t go far wrong.</p>

<p>11:40 &#8211; I wasn&#8217;t really virtual before. I had the online programs and online training options. I had a few clients that I trained online that we did 12 weeks at a time with but I didn&#8217;t really have a virtual program. So that&#8217;s something that we just kind of had to come up with on the fly.</p>
<p>20:00 &#8211; The last thing a guy wants to hear is skinny. Right? People are waiting to hold on. So if you don&#8217;t work out, you lose weight. I said, yeah, people don&#8217;t like hearing that</p>
<p>30:00 &#8211; With the marathon, when you have a big fitness goal, whether it be a big weight loss goal, or a big transformation goal, I mean, it seems like a marathon in the second if you don&#8217;t train your mind, right. If you don&#8217;t celebrate the little milestones to further original successes, then I mean, eventually you won&#8217;t make it because it&#8217;ll feel like it feel like you&#8217;re never going to get there.</p>
<p>34:40 &#8211; Basically every every excuse is really just an obstacle you haven&#8217;t overcome yet but I think just the this to me, I think the taking on the big challenges and everything and just trying to push myself where weren&#8217;t your body just as done in the rest of it is up to your mind. I think every every time it just it prepares me for when things get tough in life.</p>
<p>45:00 &#8211; The doughnuts are basically those are the curveballs that we can&#8217;t see coming. And so like there were you just have to completely change the game plan and change and throw the game, throw the game, plan out the window and adapt and so like, would be whether the bad weather donor, so you&#8217;re planning on running in the morning, and you open the door and it&#8217;s pouring down, right. And so you could either go to bed, and so a good solution would be to run in the rain. But or maybe a harder one would be the the single parent who&#8217;s planning on working out after work, and they get it or working out over their lunch break or after work, and they get a call from the school and their kid is sick.</p>

<h2><strong>Our Final Words of the Show: </strong></h2>
<p>Yeah, although always closing thoughts always I would love to give is about failing. I think as a fitness trainer, so you&#8217;ve been a trainer before. I mean, I always have I have a very, I don&#8217;t like New Year&#8217;s resolutions. I love goals. I think everybody should always have goals and regularly be setting goals. What I don&#8217;t like about New Year&#8217;s resolutions is we have ruined them, because there&#8217;s just such a negative attitude about them. And a negative attitude is is that one like after six weeks of the year, there&#8217;s all these stats that come out that 90% of people already failed on their new year&#8217;s resolutions. And big and most new year&#8217;s resolutions are about fitness. And every time I hear it, so what I just want to say so what because if you haven&#8217;t failed, you&#8217;re going to fit there&#8217;s making fitness a priority in your life is a very important message that everyone needs to learn. There&#8217;s nothing about being perfect, there&#8217;s not they&#8217;re going to fail, you&#8217;re going to fail from time to time and and that doesn&#8217;t have to end your story.</p>
<p>Whenever you do fail, if you miss a workout or if you if you eat something you didn&#8217;t plan on, if you if you had good intentions, but somehow you messed up&#8230; That doesn&#8217;t mean your fitness story is over what defined you is how you respond. And so I think the biggest message if you want to make fitness a long term part of your life, is how you respond to failure. Whenever you do mess up. It&#8217;s always thinking, what is what you do next. That counts as something my dad always said to me growing up whenever we had did make a mistake, it wasn&#8217;t your life&#8217;s not over because you&#8217;re messed up. It&#8217;s what you do next, that counts, I think and every time with fitness and don&#8217;t beat yourself up for something you did wrong. But it just turned turn to switch and it&#8217;s what you do next. How are you going to recover? How are you going to get back on track? That&#8217;s how you make this long term for you.</p>

<p>Coach Lou Williams: I am a father of three who grew up in the Harrisburg area, where I graduated from Central Dauphin East High School.</p>
<p>For as long as I can remember I’ve been a lover of all sports, especially those that tested endurance and mental toughness. I was a YMCA national level swimmer, a competitive runner, and a soccer player growing up but also dabbled in basketball, baseball, rock climbing, and triathlons.</p>
<p>I continued my education at Bloomsburg University, where I pursued a degree in Mass Communications (Journalism) while a four-year member and senior-year captain of the Bloomsburg University Men’s Soccer team. It was during this time at BU when I started coaching both soccer and swimming and realized that working with children in an athletic forum was something I really enjoyed.</p>
<p>I moved to the Bucks/Montgomery County area in 2003 with my wife Lauren, who is a Pennridge HS grad. I spent a few years experimenting with different employment, including stints as the head swim team coach and youth sports director at the Ambler Area YMCA.</p>
<p>More recently I’ve stepped into positions as the Aquatics Director at the Souderton Area High School, head coach for the 200+member Souderton Area Community Aquatic Club, head coach of the SAHS swimming and diving teams, and head coach of the Souderton borough summer swimming and diving teams.</p>
<p>My CrossFit “Journey” began in April of 2013 when I was seeking a way to stay competitive in a non-contact sport. Many years of post-collegiate soccer were beginning to exacerbate injuries suffered as a young athlete and I needed a way to stay active. A recommendation from my sister to try CrossFit resulted in me checking out CrossFit Apex, a move that has honestly changed my life.</p>
<p>Among other things, CrossFit has provided me with new knowledge of and excitement for fitness, a ton of new relationships, an outlet for my competitive nature, and a healthy environment to grow as a person.</p>

<p>02:40 &#8211; We probably have similar time domains here, Scott, my Level 1 was set to expire this past fall, and I did end up paying $1,000 and getting my L-2. This was important to my everyday workspace both with swimming and with CrossFit. So I started in 2013. So we&#8217;re going on eight full years, it took me a year or two to get my Level 1, five years of that though is coaching extensively at the CrossFit Apex gym. So I just got my Level 2, so I guess it&#8217;s about eight years in the CrossFit space, but I&#8217;ve been in the swimming coach role, in the fitness world too, similar to you and some other areas for a long, long time.</p>
<p>16:40 &#8211; CrossFit Apex did a great job of lending out some equipment which I know a lot of gyms are doing which is awesome for them to kind of give that to their members so we can solve for them. So I got a couple of kettlebells from them. I love kettlebell work. I do swings every day, the rower is my go to right now, we&#8217;ve been linked into the concept2 logbook I don&#8217;t know if you have that app on your phone. I would highly recommend it.</p>
<p>25:00 &#8211; Let&#8217;s talk some bike stuff. So let&#8217;s take my 12-year-old son and then myself, which I would call myself a newbie. I&#8217;ve been riding my mountain bike since I was 16-years-old and it&#8217;s done the trick for me. But we&#8217;ve been looking at different ways to be fit like mountain biking, getting outside, and biking seems to be something that is available right now. I&#8217;ve got two bikes. We&#8217;ve been doing some mountain biking in the area, and it has been super beneficial. I always tell people I love to hike. We&#8217;ve done some Ragnar trail races. I love to be outside in the woods whenever my kids get rambunctious.</p>
<p>30:00 &#8211;&nbsp;I just leveled up, I turned 40 in February 2020. So I was anxiously awaiting all the summer comps for this year but that now looks like they won&#8217;t happen too. The CrossFit regulations were two years ago and now it&#8217;s 35+ for masters.</p>
<p>33:30 &#8211; Every mount bike nowadays applied a standard, which all pretty much have a front shock, it&#8217;s a no-brainer. The advantage of going to full suspension is you are going to gain some nice squish in the back so to speak. But I will tell you, I can&#8217;t beat a beautiful hardtail for climbing. Because when you pedal up hills, that rear suspension is going to lag a little bit and you&#8217;re going to lose some of that power displacement on the pedal stroke.</p>
<p>42:40 &#8211; The extent of where I&#8217;ve been lately is basically Lake Nockamixon. But certainly, I&#8217;m familiar with some hiking and biking trails, and Ralph Stover out that way, come up in Green Lane, PA. Tons of stuff on and off the park trail right there.</p>
<p>48:30 &#8211; I also recommend Wissahickon, but northeast of there is an area that has a fire tower, called French Creek. They have an entire network of mountain biking trails in there too. I had ridden there three to four years ago but I remembered them because they had a rare and small wildfire. So that&#8217;s probably closer to you than obviously my region of Allentown and French Creek is big and it&#8217;s beautiful. I think that might also be under the DCNR property as well, I don&#8217;t know. I know Lake Nockamixon is definitely DCNR, which is a land preservation organization for the state of Pennsylvania. You should totally check out the trails app called AllTrails.</p>

<p>07:45 &#8211; I think what my passion and purpose, to answer your question, is that I went from being an elite athlete to, fatigued, tired, depressed, gained 30 pounds overnight, just lost everything I had as an athlete and I felt like it was overnight. But it wasn&#8217;t and so that&#8217;s kind of my purpose now. Educating that what happened to me could happen to you. Let&#8217;s stop it now before you ignore it five years later, and end up me years later, still can&#8217;t do that.</p>
<p>13:45 &#8211; That&#8217;s what I did when I wrote my book, it was more for my own therapy session. But what were my red flags that happened for probably the 10 years before my breakdown? That happened in March 2013 that led me to that day it worked up so I wasn&#8217;t aware of it so I had to go back in time till like high school and go back. Where are these things happening that I was so oblivious to? So that is kind of a task I give everyone I work with is like let&#8217;s go back and see what are your stressors you know, what are things that are triggers for you that activate that stress response and you know, we know we know that acute stress is good beneficial, but when it comes like non-stop but just never turns off that when it gets to be trouble for our bodies.</p>
<p>20:00 &#8211; So what would you say if I just filled you with macronutrients with vitamins and minerals and everything you need, instead of a pill. You know, get it from your food and it&#8217;s hard, I take ton of supplements, but it&#8217;s hard to get that from your food. But ideally, it&#8217;s food. I read Michael Pollan&#8217;s book forever go, and he has the best thing like food. You can read the ingredients list that your great grandmother had in her house</p>
<p>30:00 &#8211; When I have people on my show. It&#8217;s like, what&#8217;s your Why? What&#8217;s your drive and, you know, follow your passion, your purpose, and I feel like my purpose of going through eight years of health imbalances that I had, is so I help other people avoid going through what I have had and so it&#8217;s finding out why so for me to help other people what I&#8217;ve decided is, you know, I can&#8217;t solicit people but just you want them to come to you when they&#8217;re ready for help because being a functional practitioner now and focusing that as my main business is health coaching, being health detective is really investigating with functional labs and nutritional therapy and quarterly now together to create an individualized protocol to transform, rebuild, repair the whole you.</p>
<p>39:30 &#8211; I learned years ago that it does a lot of that stuff doesn&#8217;t get through your stomach acid so if it doesn&#8217;t like I use a megaspore for base probiotic that can actually bypass acidic that&#8217;s supposed to prevent you know the bad things were going through and so it certain things might not even get into your small intestine, large intestine, so it is quality, a lot of that stuff.</p>
<p>44:30 &#8211;&nbsp;I went over my hormone panel and my hormones right down at the bottom of the line that you should, and I was like, oh, man, I&#8217;m pretty good. That means I could be better and don&#8217;t settle for just how you are now that you could even be so much more energetic and happier and thriving. We all can be so much more. So why do we just settle for this, there&#8217;s so much more we can do.</p>
<p>50:00 &#8211; I just did labs as it just went through and I did this other lab and I keep testing people, you know, encouraging people to do lab testing. Because I didn&#8217;t know as I said, what my microbiome is about. I did a pathogen test, and it&#8217;s not good. So I might feel like I&#8217;m thriving and my immune system is super strong. But I know some people that got coronavirus, and we&#8217;re sick for two weeks and they&#8217;re active, they&#8217;re fit, they&#8217;re not overweight, but why did they get really sick from it?</p>

<p>I just think take ownership of your health for your body. You&#8217;ve got one body, you know, you do it for your car, you take your car in for repair, oil, lube change, you get new tires, getting alignment, etc. So why don&#8217;t we invest the amount of money we do on our cars to our own bodies? I don&#8217;t get it.</p>

<p>11:00: One of my good friends who&#8217;s also a coach uses this illustration&#8230; He says, there are only a few things or virtually nothing that will motivate humans as much as seeing progress. So you have to have a why. Then when you put in the effort, you want to be met with momentum and progress. Otherwise, it&#8217;s very discouraging.</p>
<p>20:00: We need to know what your body type and goal is, that&#8217;s going to massively influence our approach. Just because two people are of similar stature doesn&#8217;t mean that we&#8217;re going to approach it the same way. They may have very different goals. I need to know about your lifestyle. So even as simple as carbs role in your diet are going to be influenced by your lifestyle.</p>
<p>29:30: Just for representation, we&#8217;ll discuss this based on thousand calories a day. That will help illustrate this well. Now on this island, are skinny people, fat people, men or women, young people or old people, everything. We&#8217;re going to give them all 1000 calories a day. Then we pick them up a year later. Every single person that comes off that island, their new metabolic rate is 1000 calories a day they are burning exactly what they&#8217;re taking in or they don&#8217;t come on.</p>
<p>42:00: They want to know, well Angelo, what is MetPro? Is it high carb or low carb? Is it a gluten-free or a dairy-free thing? Is it vegan? Is it vegetarian? So just so that all the listeners understand, we actually go right down the middle. We&#8217;re diet agnostic.</p>
<p>51:00: We have a lot of entrepreneurs, a lot of guys and gals in their mid to late 40s and into their 50s. They all have successful careers and they call me up saying, you know, what&#8217;s important to me now is my health. I want fitness, I want health. It comes back to the old adage of the ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If you recognize this is an area that you can improve in, oh my gosh, the rest gets easy. All of my business entrepreneurs, all of my people that attack their career with passion, they will all tell you they&#8217;re more profitable and they are more productive with their health. They feel better about all areas of their life when they respect themselves and take care of their health and their fitness.</p>

<p>There is always the next step to keep learning. At its core, there&#8217;s nothing that frustrates me more than when we are referred to as a weight-loss company. Yes, 85% of our clients are the reference that you made, with broken metabolism, that&#8217;s exactly who we work with. But that&#8217;s not what lit my fire and got me into this. I am edgy and I&#8217;m passionate about education. So, if you can learn more about how your body responds, you have the ability to accomplish things, strategies, techniques that can go with you a lifetime, so never stop learning.</p>

<li>[10:00] If your mind isn’t in it, you’re not going to get the results. With motivational interviewing, you have to do a lot with people that come in and kind of gauge where they’re at. Especially working out, it’s mental as much as it is physical.</li>
<li>[20:00] In reference to Blind, RP, I can see maybe three to five feet in front of me on a good day. The other big characteristic of RP is what we call tunnel vision. So it’s like looking through a straw, you don’t have any peripheral vision, you can’t see on the side. I can’t see directly above me or underneath me.</li>
<li>[30:35]&nbsp;I think the reason why psychological pharmaceutical drugs get a bad name is that general physicians are handing them out like candy. They don’t really understand what is good for what and for how long and the dosage.</li>
<li>[41:00]&nbsp;I’m what you call a licensed professional counselor in turn. So you know how doctors when they pass boards, they become an intern, and then they become a resident.&nbsp;The same thing goes for mental health counselors, which I don’t think a lot of people understand. Not everyone can just be a legitimate licensed professional counselor.</li>
<li>[52:00]&nbsp;When I have phone consultations, sometimes at the end, I disclose that I’m blind. Sometimes I’ll just let them show up to their first session, and then they find out. I’m never really hesitant about that. I know once you come in with that first training session with me, you’re fucking coming back, because I’m a damn good trainer!</li>
<li>[01:06:00] In bodybuilding and fitness modeling,&nbsp;nobody got there by being lazy. I’m taking some time off to really grow. I need to grow in certain parts of my body, mostly my legs. I’m a tall girl, I have giraffe legs.</li>
<li>[01:10:00] I think the most I ever deadlifted as I was training for a show, for bodybuilding, was like 185 lbs. That was the most I ever deadlifted. Now for my first day, the other week, I did three sets of three reps at 250 lbs.</li>

<p>It’s three words, find your why I think for anything in life. This goes for whether it’s your fitness, your career, friendships that you’re maintaining or if you’re thinking about cutting off a relationship. This also goes for if you’re taking the leap of faith and starting a new business venture. Just anything in general, I think you should always find your why. That’s going to give you the answers that you’re looking for and help dictate your decisions moving forward.</p>

<p>Final Thoughts are, give yourself a permission to pause and that&#8217;s not just in looking back and goalsetting you know. Obviously, a really big part of what we&#8217;ve been talking about is to also give yourself a chance to pause and just slow down. Recognize the influence of culture and our particular culture that pushes. Look at how much your self-worth linked to what you&#8217;re doing in a day. It&#8217;s okay to pause, it&#8217;s okay to go to the beach, it&#8217;s okay to take time to not only look back but to just give yourself time to rejuvenate, refresh, and slow down. This is so you can sustain being productive, or sustain your work, or sustain your level of whatever type of productivity longer.</p>

<p>I think it&#8217;s just starting to pay attention to your mental game plan. That doesn&#8217;t start the day of trying to do an Ironman, I&#8217;m not going to just go do that tomorrow, right? I&#8217;m going to train and I&#8217;m going to prepare. As long as you&#8217;re doing the physical preparation, think about the mental preparation and not only those things from what we&#8217;ve discussed of sleep and making those unknowns, known. Even on that day of competing or whatever business you are doing, have that mental game plan and preparation there as well.</p>

<p>Be aware in that acceptance. Being in the moment is part 1. There really is an acceptance here. Sometimes that lack of acceptance can get us stuck in areas we really didn&#8217;t want to be in, in the first place.</p>
<p>Life is going to have its ups and its down. We have to keep up with ourselves in terms of mentally being in that moment. We must have that awareness and that insight with what&#8217;s going on, how our bodies are reacting and responding to it. We must get to the point where we say &#8220;okay I accept&nbsp;this is happening, I don&#8217;t have to like it but I can accept it&#8221;. We are then able to live so much more whole, full, and really maximize our potential.</p>

<p>Brendan has returned for his second appearance on our podcast to dig deeper into the topic of Cancer and the KETO aka Ketogenic Lifestyle. He last appeared on <a href="https://livethefuel.com/173" target="_blank" rel="noopener">episode 173</a> where we dug deeper into Primal and Paleo as a big influence on his healthy lifestyle. However, we failed to dig as deep into his truly&nbsp;passionate topic around Cancer and our healthy lifestyle influences.</p>
<p>Some quick background on him, he graduated medical school in 2008 and completed his radiation oncology residency training in 2013. He has lived on Florida’s Space Coast since 2013, where he works as a radiation oncologist at a busy cancer center. He has been practicing a primal/paleo lifestyle since 2011 and has become passionate about the connection between diet/lifestyle and health, particularly as it relates to cancer.</p>
<p>He and his wife, Rachel, started a blog&nbsp;<a href="http://ourhealthhabit.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">OurHealthHabit.com</a>&nbsp;to share their perspective and outlook on building healthy lifestyles as a family. Brendan has years of personal experience with different nutritional strategies–from paleo to intermittent fasting and ketosis–and his medical background brings a unique perspective to these concepts. He is enthusiastic about health, longevity, and cancer prevention and believes that the key to achieving these can be found by looking outside the mainstream medical and nutrition resources. When he’s not working or spending time with his family, Brendan enjoys working out and training for OCR races and has qualified for the North American Championships to be held in Vermont this summer. Brendan is an avid reader and consumer of podcasts, although this is his first experience on the other side of the microphone!</p>

<p>People need to realize that health is personalized. Everybody is a little different, don&#8217;t be too dogmatic about it. Don&#8217;t be like oh I&#8217;m a Vegan so everyone else has to be a Vegan.&nbsp;Or, I&#8217;m a Carnivore so everyone else has to be a Carnivore.</p>
<p>There are definitely certain principles that apply to everybody. For example, eating process sugar is bad for you! There IS a lot of diversity and customization available, so you want to be aware of that.</p>
<p>Knowledge is power, so the smarter you are about your health, the more healthy you&#8217;re going to be. The more you take control of this, the better it is going to be. He has been practicing a primal/paleo lifestyle since 2011 and has become passionate about the connection between diet/lifestyle and health, particularly as it relates to cancer.</p>
<p>He and his wife, Rachel, started a blog&nbsp;<a href="http://ourhealthhabit.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">OurHealthHabit.com</a>&nbsp;to share their perspective and outlook on building healthy lifestyles as a family. Brendan has years of personal experience with different nutritional strategies&#8211;from paleo to intermittent fasting and ketosis&#8211;and his medical background brings a unique perspective to these concepts. He is enthusiastic about health, longevity, and cancer prevention and believes that the key to achieving these can be found by looking outside the mainstream medical and nutrition resources. When he&#8217;s not working or spending time with his family, Brendan enjoys working out and training for OCR races and has qualified for the North American Championships to be held in Vermont this summer. <p>Don&#8217;t just trust conventional wisdom. Look at what&#8217;s working for people, find out what they are doing, If it sounds unconventional but it&#8217;s working, it might be worth listening to.</p>
<p>Quick rewind, the Diabetes Epidemic as blown up in this country. Just think about how things were a 100 years ago, even 5000 years ago. We didn&#8217;t have the level of disease and illness we have today. Did we still get sick&#8230;&nbsp;yes. We are all going to get sick and die eventually. Unfortunately, as much as we are into longevity, it&#8217;s inevitable.</p>
<p>Brendan thinks we can improve, not just our lifespan, but our healthspan. He thinks that we are in control of that, maybe not 100%, but a lot more than people think. Now is the time to start!</p>

He wanted to use fitness as a tool to learn more about himself. As Tommy evolved his fitness brand and his two retail gyms, he started to broadcast the message, fitness was just the starting point and can be a catalyst for mass transformation in other areas of life. Half of his audience got the message the other half was just there for fitness, so now Tommy is separating the two apart and relaunching.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;04:40&#8243;] Tommy has a book coming out late March.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;05:49&#8243;] Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic Learning Styles (VAK). Tommy in 2015, had read through 55 books. Once he got to 35 books he was not effectively digesting and implementing what he had read. He was just in consumption mode. He has since shifted his focus to only reading 15 to 20 books a year, reading the physical book and listening to the audio book version. Tommy had chosen to not move on until he had implemented something from each book into his life or business. This is what Tommy calls 365 degree learning. Going deeper, instead of wider.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;10:21&#8243;] Document the moments that make you pause.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;14:08&#8243;] Using voice notes on Evernote as a journal.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;16:22&#8243;] The power of Accountability Partners.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;18:49&#8243;] Give yourself permission to say yes to yourself to make the commitment. Once you have done that, things just start happening and you will figure the rest of the stuff out along the way. The inspiration and the passion that you are looking for are always on the other side of action.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;21:20&#8243;] When Tommy started his <strong>Resist Average</strong> podcast, he went back and listened to the very first episodes of some of the current best podcasters. He came to the realization that they really were not that good. It immediately took the pressure off him, knowing where those top podcasters are now. He took a deep breath and said, &#8220;They started somewhere look at where they are now, I have just got to get started!&#8221;</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;22:41&#8243;] We all start somewhere. The most important thing is taking action.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;23:34&#8243;] There are countless resources of accountability. A fan of Tommy&#8217;s, unknowingly, kept him accountable throughout the writing of the book.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;25:37&#8243;] Using vision boards. Vision boards are environmental triggers. It&#8217;s great to have big visions but you also have to keep in mind, what can you do today to take you a little closer to that goal.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;29:07&#8243;] Go to the places that you love and that inspire you. For Tommy it is being outside. The more you can sprinkle these into your week the more on fire you will feel.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;38:03&#8243;] Tommy got into CrossFit in 2007. It&#8217;s all about trying new things and experiences. Scott in 2010 thanks to Wildland Firefighting.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;40:02&#8243;] Constantly variable.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;43:35&#8243;] You have to find out what works, pace it and don&#8217;t be afraid to change it up.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;46:49&#8243;] Being objective with our goals. Having self awareness is huge but it is difficult to have it on your own. It is important to surround yourself with people that will ask great questions, hold you accountable and give you the power of perspective.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;49:38&#8243;] We no longer allow ourselves to be bored. At a moments lull we pull out our phones. Take moments throughout your day to just think. Reflection is as important to Tommy as action because if we are taking action but don&#8217;t take the time to reflect we could go in the wrong direction. Reflection gives us time to pivot and adjust. Tommy does daily reflection, Sunday reflection and quarterly reflection exercises to allow himself to see where he is at.</li>
