<p>05:45– One of the biggest hurdles I had to get over was the sound of my own voice. So I recorded myself giving presentations while driving my truck, in front of a mirror, etc. I did 52 weeks of recording driving to work and I made sure I did it every week, for a year straight. Not for content creation and not for anybody else. Yes, there was good content there and I would make sure I posted on YouTube, even before I went into the office.</p>
<p>12:30 – As a coach, in both the mindset life coaching part of my business and the fitness part of my business, it doesn&#8217;t matter what side of the spectrum you&#8217;re on, you got to listen to your client first.&nbsp;</p>
<p>43:30 – I work only with the lifestyle mindset coaching side of things, I don&#8217;t coach them in fitness. I coach them on their lives. We work through the victim mentality and impostor syndrome. Soft talking through the past experiences and the story work. These things take up space in us. We don&#8217;t realize they&#8217;re taking up space in us which means we can&#8217;t bring in new positive experiences. Because this something that is still holding on to us from the past, that we haven&#8217;t learned to express or let go of or deal with. It&#8217;s blocking us from moving forward. This happened to me, the reason I am more successful now than I was four years ago, is because four years ago, I had a block. I knew I had a block.&nbsp;</p>
<p>50:00 – I am often focused on the mindset coaching and lifestyle coaching which are my passions that I do outside of the gym. You have to be ready for those conversations. I had a local business that hired me and it was a six week program where I brought them through how to structure, how to plan, and they didn&#8217;t respond well to the one the week with what I had designed. They all bottled up got really closed off. It was a big time tough room. I felt it and you could feel that in the owner too. So I pivoted and I flipped the script.</p>

<p>That&#8217;s probably why I came out so happy today. It&#8217;s one of the things why I shut my mind off for an hour. I focused on whether I was not flat footed or was on my toes or rotating enough. Or like how I was striking or if I was connected to every movement I did. I was listening and learning and taking criticism. It was awesome.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s pretty cool and more people need to experience that. That feeling to just be centered and focused that hard on anything could be lifechanging, and it doesn&#8217;t have to be a athletic endeavor. It could be art, it could be music, or it could be the freeing experience like podcasting.</p>

<p>00:30: Introduction</p>
<p>10:00: Coach Matt Beckwith, I come off a 20-year career coaching swimming at the collegiate and club level for United States Swimming. I got to work with a lot of really great kids, athletes, and other coaches. I still stay in the community a little bit but more on the strength and conditioning side.</p>
<p>20:00: Coach Rob Eschbach, If we don&#8217;t meet those athletes where they are, then it will be difficult for them. You can&#8217;t walk into a competitive performance environment with goals of carrying laundry up steps. Now those goals just don&#8217;t lie. So we&#8217;re trying to align the client&#8217;s goal with their programming.</p>
<p>30:00: I say to this day, I&#8217;ve never slept so well in my life as I when I slept in Arizona, and it was not a nice hotel. It was just your brain was shot, I was so fried. I think we were in mid-conversation during a basketball game, I woke up the next day, I have no idea what happened. I know I fell asleep and I woke up. I just passed out just because my brain was so fried and full of knowledge from the last three days of coursework.</p>
<p>40:00: I worked officiating and governing body type activities within the Mid-Atlantic Swimming and USA Swimming, as far as the structure of the organization goes. When I heard about the USAFF, USA Functional Fitness, it was something that I thought was cool. Their goals are in place to see Functional Fitness as an Olympic sport in 2028.</p>
<p>50:00: If we&#8217;re talking about functional fitness, we&#8217;re talking about programming and methodology that is more natural. This is important when looking at what&#8217;s next after your competitive career is over. We have talked about having a finite number of competitions left in my game. I know Matt the same thing. But this doesn&#8217;t mean you stop, functional fitness is functional. It is health and wellness. That&#8217;s the overarching goal of what we do. These kids want to know, they&#8217;re gonna bust their butts and compete at the national level or international level for however long the duration of their career is. But this should be something when they&#8217;re done competing that they can continue.</p>

<p>Final Thoughts are, give yourself a permission to pause and that&#8217;s not just in looking back and goalsetting you know. Obviously, a really big part of what we&#8217;ve been talking about is to also give yourself a chance to pause and just slow down. Recognize the influence of culture and our particular culture that pushes. Look at how much your self-worth linked to what you&#8217;re doing in a day. It&#8217;s okay to pause, it&#8217;s okay to go to the beach, it&#8217;s okay to take time to not only look back but to just give yourself time to rejuvenate, refresh, and slow down. This is so you can sustain being productive, or sustain your work, or sustain your level of whatever type of productivity longer.</p>

<p>DocBeast is a real ER doctor, a fellow CrossFit workout buddy, coach, and more! You have to ask yourself, why you want the things you do. When you do this, you can focus on what matters and start making steps towards that. To get you there quicker you also have to focus on You. Focusing on you is not being selfish. It will allow you to take twelve steps forward to achieving your Why. That is what this episodes co-host did. From being an unhealthy Doctor, Dr. William Borde-Perry transformed himself by focusing on him. After getting fit, it gave Will a new purpose in life, and it felt like he had been given superpowers. He became DocBeast, a brand that represents him perfectly. He is fitness certified by Insanity, CrossFit, with experience in Olympic Lifting, Mobility, Strongman; all while working at three different hospitals and being a loyal family man. The list of knowledge and credentials DocBeast has is endless. All of this is possible by focusing on himself to solidify his Why. The advice here is, always be a student in life and start to make a change in your life today</p>

<h2>On This Episode You Will Hear:</h2>

<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;01:52&#8243;] The DocBeast brand was born in 2011. In 2009 Dr. William started his journey with Beachbody &#8211; Insanity Workouts. He was 270 lbs, he was out of breath all the time and he needed to lose weight. After he lost 50 lbs and got fit it felt like he had superpowers. People would refer to him as &#8220;Beast&#8221; and he was a Doctor so after different iterations &#8220;DocBeast&#8221; stuck.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;02:54&#8243;] Growing up Dr. William done some weight work but not as focused as he has been since he began CrossFit and BeachBody. After improving his diet with protein and vegetables, he began to realize how much he could lift. Fitness has opened up the whole world to him, its transformed him physically and who he is.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;03:54&#8243;] Growing up, his Mom would not let his sister and him play sports. He was born and raised in Newark New Jersey part of a single parent house hold. Dr. Williams Mom wanted them to focus on academics. When he wasn&#8217;t studying he would sneak mini work outs in his room.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;04:39&#8243;] Without fitness, he felt he became very sluggish but with it he felt energized, it brought friends and an education. He utilized a lot of his education in the medical field, he used a lot of his education in the Molecular Biology to educate himself further. As he got older he moved from using fitness as something that makes him look and feel good to helping others achieve that.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;06:04&#8243;] Dr. William has found that when it comes to people who don&#8217;t exercise or choose not to have educated themselves in nutrition, they are more depressed and less motivated.</li>

<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;11:00&#8243;] Putting our best self into our &#8216;Why&#8217;. If you don&#8217;t put yourself first there will nothing of you later on. If you just sacrifice just 30 minutes per day to exercise and focus on your nutrition you can actually give back more to your &#8216;Why&#8217;. It is an investment into yourself. You are going to take one step back to give yourself some time and focus so you can take twelve steps forwards.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;12:31&#8243;] Putting your best self forward. DocBeast is not a self made man, its all the influences and mentors around him that have got him to this point.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;15:17&#8243;] What is the legacy you are leaving behind or the legacy you are building to leave behind.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;16:17 &#8220;] Dr. William works with three different hospitals. Reason for this is each brings their own experiences. Each experience gives Dr. William different ways to approach and learn new things.</li>

<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;20:42&#8243;] Isogenix and BeachBody and building side income.</li>

His diet has gone from drinking milkshakes to whole clean foods, drinking nutrition shakes and lots of vegetables and lean meats. How inflammation is tied to disease.</li>

<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;32:35&#8243;] Choose to focus on nutrition, Take 2 minutes to read the labels of the products you are going to consume. You don&#8217;t need to know everything. They don&#8217;t teach nutrition to Doctors in medical school.</li>

<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;37:17&#8243;] Stick to the perimeters in supermarkets. Look for whole fresh foods. The aisle are full of stuff with expiration dates that are lasting longer than most foods because they have been preserved. When you have a lifestyle that is taking in natural foods like vegetables and lean meats, you will be getting the essential vitamins that your body needs to work with the enzymes that help function you body, a lot of most people complaints will go away.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;42:10&#8243;] Nutrient Density. When you starts giving the body what it is missing, it responds exponentially better.</li>

He had shared a post that I found inspiring and worthy of sharing across all of social media. Mostly because it involves crowdfunding that was benefiting children and their fitness at the elementary school level. This campaign is on the popular <strong>GoFundMe</strong> platform. This online system allows someone to go out there to try to fund&nbsp;a dream, get a business going, launch charity or simply find funding with just the power of the internet.&nbsp;Nowadays it&#8217;s truly about the power of Google, of people, social media and building communities that can step behind something of value. The co-host today is from Vermont, he runs a program through <a href="HEScrossfit.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">HEScrossfit.com</a>,&nbsp;and his name is&nbsp;Peter Driscoll!</p>
<p>Peter has been teaching physical education in Vermont for ten years. He currently teaches at the <a href="http://www.wsesu.net/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hartland Elementary School</a> aka HES. Nominated for the Vermont Teacher of Year Award by his peers in 2009 and earned his CrossFit Level one certification in 2010 and incorporated much of the <a href="Crossfit.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CrossFit </a>philosophy into his P.E. classes. He also trains for obstacle course races, recently finishing in the top 1% at the <a href="http://http://www.spartan.com/en/race/detail/1523/overview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vermont Beast Spartan Race</a>&nbsp;in <a href="http://killington.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Killington</a>. He&#8217;s using all of this background and more to build a successful <strong>GoFundMe</strong> campaign to benefit his students while teaching other teachers that they could do the same!</p>

They say confidence is the foundation in which all our successes is built upon. Their motto is, &#8220;Form, Consistency, Everything else&#8221;. The kids are run through a fundamentals program, so they learn the form and the technique before any weight gets applied.&nbsp;If you don&#8217;t have those techniques consistently developed, you have a high risk of injury</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;18:26&#8243;] The lead up&#8217;s Peter was talking about, in the education world they call this Scaffolding, to scaffold those movements and scaffold that information for the kids is vital.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;21:05&#8243;] Initial costs of opening a CrossFit gym includes the $3,000 affiliate fee, equipment costs, rent, utilities, insurance, marketing and salary expenses. For a medium-sized gym aka box, an owner can expect an up-front cost of at least $5,000 for equipment and $1,000 or more per month afterward to maintain and replace equipment. But since Peters project is a non-profit they get the fee waived and the agreement they have with CrossFit HQ is the school community can access their box and nobody can be charged a nickel.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;22:22&#8243;] In 2014 Peter and his brother founded <a href="http://tabatakids.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tabatakids.com</a>. They created music specifically for Tabata and Peter then brought it into the classroom so teachers can take a four-minute movement break with their students and they do it to the music.</li>

On one of the days, he was not presenting he went to a session on how to bring CrossFit to your school. <h2>Todays Strong Co-host</h2>
<p>Chris Mulvaney is a <strong>strong</strong> business developer, community activist, entrepreneur, and an award-winning creative marketing strategist. He also studied music at Monmouth University and has rocked out in some big band life along the way. More importantly he chooses balance through staying fit&nbsp;with CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting.</p>
<p>He is the founder and CEO of CMDS; a NJ-based marketing and design agency that provides integrated marketing strategies and tactics. CMDS has been around the integrated marketing block by helping businesses. They realize the power of the internet as a tool for building brands, engaging customers, and driving revenue. Some of the services that CMDS offers include Brand Strategy, Logo Design, Search Engine Marketing, Search Engine Optimization, Website Development, Social Media Marketing and Paid Search Marketing.</p>
<p>Chris is also the founder and CEO of Post Café; a company that helps individuals and businesses to build an ongoing conversation with their clients that extends beyond the sale. They post strategically written, on-trend content on various social media platforms. This content helps businesses stay top of mind for repeat business and qualified referrals.</p>
<p>Besides CMDS and Post Café, Chris is also the founder of ProTasker.&nbsp;This is a project management software that helps individuals and businesses that need to keep an eye on production, quality control, and your bottom line. This software was redeveloped in 2011 for distribution to the public and has had astonishing success.</p>
<p>His extensive professional background includes working with some of the world&#8217;s leading brands. Personally dedicated to helping clients refine their corporate vision and generate the kind of eye-popping, <strong>strong</strong> revenue that many companies dream about. Chris also serves on the boards for several local businesses and charities, lending a creative and strategic eye to marketing and operational best practices.</p>

<h2><strong>And Much, Much More</strong></h2>
<p>I ran into Chris a few months ago now. We are both are in the <a href="http://crossfit.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CrossFit</a> world, and he came up for an Olympic Weightlifting competition at our facility in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. At our first meeting he had only just started his focus on getting <strong>strong</strong> through weightlifting in the past 7 months.&nbsp;Chris is still into Olympic Weightlifting training six days a week. Lifting is like his hobby and stress release from all the other stuff that he is involved in from his businesses, to family, to the charity work and more.</p>
<p>Chris explains that CMDS is a creative marketing agency. The company’s clients range from a smaller $10 million dollar kind of entities up to a Fortune 500 company. He helps them establish a presence in their marketplace from helping them determine the voices for their brand.&nbsp;They&#8217;ll also help them define the vision of their company by building out the creative piece and the identity of that company.</p>
<p>Thanks to doubling their income success in 2015 they&#8217;ve achieved the Inc 5000 award!&nbsp;Inc. magazine ranked CMDS, a leading NJ full service marketing and web design agency.&nbsp;They are weighing in at number 1989 on its 35th annual Inc. 5000.&nbsp;This is an&nbsp;exclusive ranking of the nation&#8217;s fastest-growing private companies. <p>Chris reveals that they work from Monday through Thursday from 8 to 6. So what does this mean? This is kind of cool because they are starting to see a few more companies that do that nowadays too. Smart CEO&#8217;s take on this supposedly risky expense by investing in ensuring their employees have better vacations and life balance. Chris is always trying to find ways to make his team&nbsp;<strong>strong</strong> and moree productive. This is the exact reason they officially have only four days required in the office.</p>
<p>Giving his employees three days off in a week; is it a lifestyle goal? He replies, a definite YES. Chris says that he is trying to figure out how his companies can attract and retain employees for life. He is looking for ways to keep employees happy.&nbsp;He says that clients can come and go over a few year period, but top talent employees are tough to find. So it&#8217;s important to build ways to retain their value.</p>
<p>We also discussed the importance of accountability. One thing you have to keep in mind is a quote I learned years ago: &#8220;We are personally and collectively accountable for our results.&#8221; It&#8217;s important to be personally responsible for what you&#8217;re doing but also think about it from a collective capacity for the greater good of the company.</p>
<p>Chris continued to reveal more about the <strong>strong</strong> CMDS business lifestyle. He says they&#8217;ve paid to have chiropractors on site in the past and they are planning to bring in a yoga instructor to give his teams more healthy options. This is a great practice to consider whether it be for the physical and/or the mental benefits.&nbsp;This will definitely FUEL their health, business and lifestyle success!</p>
<p>We talked about the importance of networking to ensure long term growth through connectivity. This goes for personal or professional network growth. You never know what&#8217;s going to happen down the road in your life or business for that matter. Keeping in mind that we truly are the product of the five people we spend the most time with.&nbsp;If you want to grow, you must be ready to increase your network and your circle of influence.</p>
<p>We also discussed the value of taking risks in whatever you do in life. If you are not willing to take risks, you are missing out on the powerful learning&#8217;s that come from failure. Failure leads to eventual succeed. You didn&#8217;t just start walking from child birth. Each of us crawled and failed at walking a few times along the way.&nbsp;Now who is the <strong>strong</strong> one?!</p>
