<p>22:00 – I always remind people, guess where most people start their podcasts, is it in the garage, in their bedroom? No it&#8217;s the closet, it&#8217;s about finding that smaller room, less chance of an echo, less noise reverberation off of the walls. If you have clothing hang in there, you push it to the sides, again, extra sound matting, and especially if you don&#8217;t have an upgraded microphone yet. </p>
<p>28:15 –We talk to equine veterinarians all day long and we wear a lot of different hats in the roles that we have, and half the time, I feel like we&#8217;re almost a little bit like therapists. People just want to talk, and they want to talk through their issues. So we spend a lot of time just listening to people kind of talk about what&#8217;s going on and what the challenges are. There&#8217;s a really unfortunate phenomenon in our large animal industry, people come into it straight out of school, and they wind up leaving in a few years and going to a small animal or doing something completely different. So there&#8217;s this attrition rate on an already anemic level, the supply of veterinarians is hurting. There has always been mental health issues going on as well. Citizens do not realize how challenging the long hours are, late nights in the dark, etc. </p>
<p>33:00 – So there&#8217;s so many ways to access this wealth of knowledge or entertainment. If you&#8217;re somebody who&#8217;s spending all day in a car, no matter what you&#8217;re doing, whether you&#8217;re a veterinarian or a salesperson, and you&#8217;re not using that time to better yourself, either personally or professionally, you are missing a great opportunity to grow. </p>
<p>45:20 – There are &#8220;consultants&#8221; out there being recommended in some of the veterinary world, supposedly helping all of these veterinarians. Claiming they know how to grow their business and grow their sales. You have to do your due diligence, especially as doctors trying to understand entrepreneurship to grow and maintain a business while loving the clients&#8217; animals. </p>
<p>50:00 – I actually had one veterinarian in Idaho who who did that after we had that profitability conversation. He took me out to breakfast, he bought breakfast for me, and he said, I just wanted to thank you. He said, I did what you said. I didn&#8217;t do it as extreme as you suggested, but I started making that move. I&#8217;m doing incrementally over time. He&#8217;s like, I am making more money. I&#8217;m working less hours, and the customers that I do have, that I&#8217;ve kept, are so much happier with me.</p>

<p><em>Ryan Murphy&#8217;s Final Words:</em> I think listening to people&#8217;s stories is quite impactful, especially when you can relate to those stories, even people outside of the industry. Like John said before, it&#8217;s about <strong>community</strong>. So not feeling alone. That&#8217;s a big thing in the industry, and so I think that&#8217;s where I want them to end up, and I want them to hopefully build a community through our podcast. Valeo means to <strong>thrive</strong>, so it means <strong>mental health</strong>, but it means smeone who&#8217;s thriving in mental health. &nbsp;In one other word, <strong>significance</strong>, significance to the people that you love, or just significance in affecting change in the world. So I think if you boil life down, the purpose for us all, is significance.</p>
<p><em>John Ryan&#8217;s Final Words:</em> It&#8217;s the fact that <strong>you&#8217;re not alone</strong>, and you don&#8217;t have to be alone in all of this. <p>10:40 – Oregon and Colorado are the only two ballot initiatives for that California had something that got through the legislature but was vetoed by the governor. He&#8217;s asking for some more guardrails before he signed something. So who knows what happens next year in California? A ton of different cities have done the second way people access psychedelics in America, which is decriminalizing them. So decriminalize means it&#8217;s not legal, but it&#8217;s been the law enforcement guideline in that area which has been told this is the lowest priority. We don&#8217;t spend any resources pursuing people who have small amounts of psychedelics. There are multiple cities in California, Ann Arbor, Michigan, Detroit, Michigan, Washington, DC, a bunch up in Maine, there&#8217;s a number of cities that have decriminalized psychedelics.&nbsp;</p>
<p>33:00 – Halfway&#8230; So back in the old days, there was just healer, and the healer was both a medicine doctor and a spiritual healer. As Western society developed, we said, oh no, we&#8217;re gonna gonna separate these roles and and doctors will be pure science and healers will be pure spiritual. Well, psychedelics plays in both realms. Psychedelics are learning to die before you die in many respects.</p>
<p>44:20 – It&#8217;s amazing, even Governor Perry from Texas became an advocate for psychedelics. There are over 309 academic institutions studying psychedelics now.</p>

<p>I think what I would leave behind for today is saying, look, while I talk about psychedelics for everyone, I don&#8217;t mean everyone should take a psychedelic. Please get educated and whether it&#8217;s for you, or for someone you love, or whether it just changes the way you talk at the water cooler or vote at the ballot box, these are powerful medicines that are going to change our world for good, and getting up to date and educated on them is important.</p>

<p>05:20 – I really wish I had been introduced to this 20 years ago as it would have saved me a lot of suffering. I suffer from a condition called tinnitus and it is a ringing in the ear. I maintain that condition and it was caused by eight years in the US Army,&nbsp;</p>
<p>12:00 – One of the things I try to get across the people every time I talked to them is that they need to guard their hearing. Some of the concussive sounds that I have heard in the Army with no hearing protection on the market would have helped or would have protected it to that degree. Did you know that I get letters every single week from dentists who are working on teeth and they were getting negative impacts from how the drills are resonating.</p>
<p>23:10 – I love most music, we all love to listen to whatever type of music it is we listen to. That is really the whole reason that we did Melody Clouds and put it together the way that we did. Once I was able to figure out, okay, this is how binaural beats work. Let&#8217;s find out what other problems that binaural beats will help solve.&nbsp;</p>
<p>32:30 – The way that we&#8217;ve done it is I put all the binaural beats in a solfeggio and the guided meditations in one section. People who like binaural beats, they like the guided meditations and solfeggio has worked for them as well. They&#8217;re familiar with it, and they know how that works. Now, the one thing I did was, add images, all of the images in Melody Clouds are award winning art and award winning photography.&nbsp;</p>

Instead of you sitting in front of a TV and watching a story, those radio programs, this required imagination, this will require you to think and visualize it yourself. So rather than being overwhelmed by all the visual and the sounds from a VR headset, which is becoming a problem, and it&#8217;s the opposite of relaxation for people.</p>

<p>When someone sincerely asks me for help, I try very hard to be present for that and to do what I can to further someone else&#8217;s goals. I do that because of the negativity that sometimes surrounds projects that I wanted, the people that are closest to us oftentimes are the ones that are the are naysayers. Don&#8217;t do this because other people are doing it. I look back at some very good advice that I was given. Every restaurant in the United States has a hamburger on the menu. That doesn&#8217;t stop McDonald&#8217;s, Burger King, In N Out, and Five Guys, along with other hamburger only restaurants. The bottom line, what I would say to people, is you don&#8217;t hear no, don&#8217;t ever hear no, hear not now, you&#8217;re not yet ready. But don&#8217;t hear no. <p><strong><em>Her Struggle With Anorexia Nervosa: </em></strong></p>
<p>Growing up in France, Claire ate the typical French diet rich in saturated fat and protein. A dancer, she was naturally thin like her fellow ballerinas-in-training. Constant comparisons as to who was the slimmest, however, led Claire to develop body-image issues, and as she entered her teenage years, she started to restrict her eating.</p>
<p>Her parents were in the dark about her struggles, and after experiencing a traumatic incident at the age of 16, her eating disorder got worse and developed into full-blown Anorexia Nervosa.</p>
<p><strong><em>Finding The Carnivore Diet: </em></strong></p>
<p>As the years passed by, Claire became a prisoner of her tyrannical eating disorder. At 5′ 7″, her weight would go on to drop to a life-threatening 69 pounds. She became so frail she had to use a wheelchair, and at one point, she even lost the fat from her optical nerves and went blind for months.</p>
<p>Her hair fell out, her teeth fell out, and her heart rate was always hovering below 40. In 2017, she got the flu and died on the table for several minutes. At 33 years old, Claire was desperate beyond measure and started looking for alternative ways to try and conquer Anorexia.</p>
<p>When she came across the carnivore diet, she was intrigued by its simplicity. She started with a low-fat option but still didn’t feel very well. Then, in July of 2021, Claire was unable to go swimming with her family when on vacation because she was freezing cold—even though it was the middle of the summertime.</p>
<p>In her sadness, she became resolved to give the carnivore diet a real try and booked a coaching session with one of the Carnivore.Diet coaches online. They encouraged Claire to think about eating meat and fat like taking medicine, and if she committed to it fully, her body would heal—fast.</p>
<p>“I was so scared, but from one day to another, I only ate fatty meat…it was a life changer.” Claire started off with easy-to-digest ground beef. She also drank raw egg yolks and snacked on butter—sometimes up to several sticks a day!</p>
<p>“I was eating fat all the time, and my body handled it fantastically…It was like body happiness…I couldn’t stop! Since the moment I started eating this way, I was not able to restrict myself anymore. I have to eat when I’m hungry—my body is so happy with it!</p>
<p><strong><em>Finding Happiness and Learning Weight Optimization: </em></strong></p>
<p>Within three months, Claire was able to gain 20 pounds and come off all of her anti-depression medication—in close collaboration with her doctor, of course! Now, 39 years old and with a full head of hair, Claire is up to 110 pounds. Instead of being wheelchair-bound and blind, she is able to jump on the trampoline with her son and work all day in her job as an engineer. All of her blood markers are excellent as well, leaving her doctors amazed.</p>
<p>Any lingering concerns about her weight have vanished, and Claire is miraculously unbothered by the scale. “The carnivore diet is not about weight loss; it’s about weight optimization. So, if it brings me to gain twenty more pounds or thirty more pounds—it’s possible—I don’t have any trouble with it.</p>
<p>I want to feel satiated all the time, and I want to be able to think clearly, and I don’t want to restrict… I’m eating amazing food, I’m doing some movement, I’m sleeping well, so the weight will be what it has to be.</p>

<p>05:00 – I was vegan I from 2012 2017, fiver years of my life. You have to find what is true and what is not true. On the internet you can find all the information you want. You can listen to what you want to hear. If you want to hear that veganism is perfect, you will hear that veganism is perfect.</p>
<p>09:00 – When I started switching to veganism, I didn&#8217;t want to become a vegan at the beginning. I did it for my son because I was breastfeeding him and he was having health issues because he was allergic to dairy and dairy protein was going into my breast milk. So the doctor asked me to stop just the dairy on my own for him, not to get any dairy, and to get better. So it was the starting point. I just eliminated dairy from my diet first. Then I was looking for more people having the same issues and I start finding people saying similar things.</p>
<p>19:20 &#8211; I&#8217;m eating lots of meat and my son is really happy with this. H is also eating a lot of meat as well and he knows that meat is good for him. But it&#8217;s not eating only meat. It is. I&#8217;m really open minded. As long as he has his meat and his fat first, then he can have whatever he wants.</p>
<p>30:30 –I wasn&#8217;t drinking alcohol, I stopped in 2010 because my uncle died, he was 30 years drunk. So I was not drinking any alcohol, I was not eating any fat, but I had liver failure, and you have liver failure because you&#8217;re not giving nutrients to your body. I had a few heart failure issues because when you don&#8217;t get enough potassium into your body, and you cannot retain the potassium, so it gets low and even if I had potassium through my veins every single week, it was not enough to sustain because I was not giving the nutrients. I was just damaging everything. I had a lot of kidney stones. This is due to all these crappy leafy greens I was eating them all of the time. So I was passing kidney stones all the time.</p>
<p>39:30 – It was very important for me and she helped me a lot to get out of the medication because it&#8217;s the same, you kind of go out of psychiatrist make medication just listening to person in the inefficiency of saying you go carnivore and then you stop being depressed and anxious. Okay, no, it took me three months, but we did it gradually, and she was helping me with this. No way she would give me back to big pharma, especially if she knows that it&#8217;s working and all is fine. But yeah, for all of this very heavy medication, you need medical advice. I&#8217;m an engineer, I&#8217;m not a doctor.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I left all this of this veganism crap in the past to make me a better person and to be able to educate people. Yeah, I was wrong. I was brainwashed. I&#8217;m not anymore, I think on my own. <p>05:00 – I wasn&#8217;t diagnosed until I was actually in my 50s. So the background on this is looking back now in working with experts, psychiatrists, I now know that I was living on the bipolar spectrum from teenage years. So in, I always had a, what they call a bipolar brain. But at first, it was a very low level of mania.</p>
<p>10:00 – Mania is really the opposite of burnout. Because with mania, you&#8217;re going continuously up, up, up until you blow up and come crashing down to earth. So the manic side of the cycle is up up more and more energy, less sleep, more grandiosity, etc. Then I would say, what goes up must come down. So when you reach a peak level, and your brain is over producing these key chemicals, when it&#8217;s time to go the other way, the brain stops producing as much, and it gets fewer and fewer of these chemicals. Then that&#8217;s when you hit the burnout, you fall into depression, and your brain essentially begins to shut down. I mean, no energy, withdrawn, confused, you can&#8217;t make a decision, can&#8217;t get out of bed, can&#8217;t go to work. That&#8217;s where I think the burnout comes in. It&#8217;s just the natural byproduct of the mania.</p>
<p>20:00 &#8211; Scott, you&#8217;ve actually given me a good idea, and something to think about. Maybe we have a little more specificity in who is my buddy, in what area I&#8217;ve given down here. You know, all my friends that, because I&#8217;ve written about 25 articles in close to 100 talks, everybody knows, Martin has a bipolar disorder. What I&#8217;ve done is I&#8217;ve given them these little cards that showed the symptoms of mania and depression. I&#8217;ve talked to them and said, okay, look, read this, do you understand it, if you see me displaying any of these symptoms, talk to me, talk to my wife, so we can address it. So that is ours, I&#8217;ve got my wife, who has a really good understanding. But I think having a more precise targeting system that you just alluded to, is really the way to go. So I&#8217;m gonna have to get busy and put that into effect.&nbsp;</p>
<p>31:00 – There&#8217;s a thing called seasonal seasonal affective disorder. I&#8217;ve actually had it my whole life. When the days gets short in they fall into the dark, like a long winter, your mood sinks, and you go into kind of a natural depression.&nbsp;Then when the Spring time comes in, the sun&#8217;s high and the days are longer and brighter, your depression goes away, and you really get a low level of mania.&nbsp;</p>
<p>41:00 – There are some other side benefits of lithium. There&#8217;s been some research done where lithium can help prevent dementia, and it can help prevent other chronic diseases that otherwise would come at a higher, more rapid pace. So there&#8217;s some side benefits as well that rise above the toxic concerns.</p>
<p>50:00 – The thing about mania, it&#8217;s really important to know that for much of my manic state, it actually helped me. It made me better, it boosted and enhanced my performance, made me smarter, funnier, more energetic, and it wasn&#8217;t until you get to a certain threshold and you go too high, that it becomes destructive.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Our Final Words of the Show: </strong></h2>
<p>Bipolar disorder and other mental conditions, they can often be deadly and destructive. They could destroy marriages, families, careers, finances, lead to addictions, homelessness, incarceration, death, and even suicide. That&#8217;s the bad news. I mean, really, really devastating stuff. That&#8217;s the bad news.</p>
<p>The good news is that if you get diagnosed and get treated, and stick with your treatment plan, and you manage these chronic conditions, you can live a happy, healthy, purposeful life, which is a great story! It&#8217;s a great news story, and you just have to manage it the way people manage diabetes, or cancer or heart disease.</p>
<p>Now, why don&#8217;t people go get help? That&#8217;s the $100 question, when they&#8217;re sick, why don&#8217;t they get help? It&#8217;s because of the stigma. That drug leads people to shame and embarrassment. The stigma is just based on ignorance. People still have a notion that when it comes to mental health problems, or due to lack of character, or lack of willpower. Not true, it&#8217;s due to physiological conditions inside the wiring of the brain. So once you realize that, there should be no stigma, just like there&#8217;s no stigma against diabetes or cancer. So that&#8217;s kind of my message, arm yourself with knowledge. A great place to start is the Bipolar General book. Get the knowledge because that knowledge could save your life or the life of somebody that you love.</p>

<li>[10:00] You can do your own health checkup. But you got to get a battery of testing done. Luckily, there’s a lot of services now you get a blood test, a stool test, you can get everything tested. But then you’re looking at money and you’re looking at it really taking a while to just figure out the best way to interpret everything.</li>
<li>[20:00] The Braverman Assessment, the same Dr. Braverman of Pathmed. His book in this mindset really kind of changed my life and changed how I view brain health. What he does is he’s just connecting mood mindset and anything brain-related. He’s connecting back to these four main neurotransmitters. So he has this assessment, the Braverman assessment, you can take it and it takes about 20 minutes to complete.</li>
<li>[30:00] I kind of consider it like an entry into our brand, or an entry into thinking about brain health. A lot of people are skeptical of taking supplements in general. We&nbsp;noticed that and I wanted to fight against that. So we do make everything fully transparent. So we put all of our ingredient suppliers. We put it all out there, where every ingredient came from.</li>
<li>[41:40] I’m gonna start with the basics for sure. Diet is something that most people don’t get. The keto thing is obviously hot right now. It does have real benefits. I don’t think it’s for everyone.</li>
<li>[52:00] You have got to get your sleep. That’s kind of what the first thing is because if you don’t sleep enough, and you don’t get high-quality sleep, you’re a zombie the next day. Some people kind of get used to that and they’re walking around like zombies.</li>

<p>This is something that stuck with me for a long time, from when I was traveling in South America in 2007. I spent a couple of months traveling around and I was in the backseat of a bus in Bolivia. This white guy, very kind of rough-looking guy, you can tell he’d been there for a while, he comes off the bus. I’m like, jeez, what is this? What’s this guy doing? I’m just like this tourist guy and he’s just in it. I hear him tell the story that he was going to buy it. He’s traveling like six hours to buy a new teapot.</p>
<p>It really says something for the simple things in life. That got him going. He then went into this whole story on every problem comes with opportunities, and how he just got stuck down there for some reason. I didn’t ask questions, but he did make a huge opportunity of it. He now grows organic produce on his farm and he’s really loving his life down there.&nbsp;I took that with me, that and other people have said this statement that with every problem, there’s an opportunity.</p>

Knowledge is power and unfortunately, right now in the media, there is so much negative information surrounding food and nutrition. There is so much pressure put on people and negative messaging that people do not understand the positive powers food has to help you build your health.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;08:00&#8243;] Body Image. You have to work with the body you have got. We are given these visual ideas of what we think our bodies should look like. But that does not always match up with the reality of our own biology.</li>

<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;14:14&#8243;] The image that we are holding ourselves to is not a healthy way to live day to day. People that compete in body sculpting, bodybuilding and physique competitions do not live like that 100% of the time.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;16:54&#8243;] You can&#8217;t sustain a high level of performance consistently, you have to let your body and mind rest. That&#8217;s why there are training cycles.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;18:00&#8243;] How you talk to the down curve. You need to have other things, other goals and not be setting your whole identity around one pillar. Having a sole focus is never healthy because the come-down from achieving that focus or goal can be really hard.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;19:55&#8243;]&nbsp;Why people struggle to handle the transition from the journey to the destination</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;21:46&#8243;] Being aware and noticing behavioral changes. Don&#8217;t be scared to check in with people to see how they are doing. It gives the person who requires the help an outlet to talk.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;24:41&#8243;]&nbsp;Having the dialog, being honest with each other. It helps normalize the down after competing.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;26:02&#8243;] Holding ourselves accountable to be more aware of what&#8217;s actually happening with the people in our lives.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;29:25&#8243;] Listen for the things that people are doing right and tell them that&#8217;s awesome. Build on the positive stuff people are doing rather than the things they are not doing right. Those small lifting moments helps build the positive habits in others. Those little bits of encouragement can be very powerful.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;31:53&#8243;] It&#8217;s not the massive things we need to try and change, it&#8217;s the small things. Take 5 minutes to check in with someone. You have no idea the impact it will make on them.</li>

<p>When any of us go through those dark times, we go through those struggles, which inevitably happen to us. They get thrown at us, we get curve balls and the most important thing to remember is it is not permanent. Right now you may be stuck at this moment. It may appear to last forever, and you can&#8217;t see the end of the tunnel, but it is there.</p>
<p>When we go through things, when there are those struggles, it&#8217;s that awareness, that ability to see that there is another side of this. It&#8217;s not permanent. You can get help. You can get resources. You can get out of it with the aid of others, companies, podcasts, etc.</p>
