<p>My name is Scott King 46 years old. Huge all my life. In 2006 I had gastric bypass. Day of surgery I was 552lbs. Lost weight but as these surgeries seem to go I gained all my weight back. I tried to have gastric again and was denied. I heard Vinnie Tortorich on the Adam Carolla and Dr. Drew show and as a last ditch effort I tried NSNG. I have lost 300lbs from it. Never been healthier. I have set my unicorn of all goals and that&#8217;s the Ironman Texas in 2025. I hope this journey inspires the hopeless to take a change and encourage others.</p>

<p>04:40 – I&#8217;ve always been a strong swimmer. But as I got into triathlon training, I realized I was actually a strong floater, and I wasn&#8217;t the strongest swimmer. That is, I was very buoyant and so I mistakenly thought that meant I was a good swimmer. That was a whole entire different beast and my first try was a pool swim, a short one, then you go into open water swim. That&#8217;s a whole different animal too now that you got currents to deal with, even in a small body of water. It&#8217;ll expose every flaw or weakness you have in any technique.</p>
<p>17:30 – I&#8217;m going to build up to that Ironman level of training. But with that comes incredible expenses. entry fees, all of that stuff. I mean, just simple stuff like hydration, nutrition, and that sort of thing. Buying shoes, because I&#8217;m a big guy, I wear out shoes, bicycle stuff, everything has a huge expense. Let&#8217;s not forget I have three daughters. I&#8217;ve told Vinnie before I live in a trickle down economic system in my house, nothing trickles down to Dad, I&#8217;m the afterthought.</p>
<p>24:15 – I had gastric bypass back in 2006 and I lost a good chunk of weight. Like a lot of people though, I started putting the weight back on. Roughly, around 2016-17, I was pretty much back exactly to where I was when I had gastric bypass beforehand. So I&#8217;ve tried to have gastric bypass again, because oddly enough, and I say this in quotations if you can get both or whatever. It was the only thing that ever worked for me. Which is kind of ironic because I&#8217;m trying to have it again because it didn&#8217;t work for me.</p>
<p>26:00 – So I downloaded a PDF, just saying screw it, I gotta check this No Sugar No Grains out. It was a simple list of don&#8217;t do this, don&#8217;t do that. I&#8217;m married, so I get this list, I&#8217;m pretty good at it, but I still didn&#8217;t do anything about it. But one day, we were out front in the front yard. At the time, my two and a half year old daughter ran out to the street. I&#8217;ll stop right now, nothing bad happened, because it&#8217;s a very quiet street, but she was already in the road before I can even get out of the chair to get to help her. Once I was out of the chair, I couldn&#8217;t catch up with her. I was that horribly out of shape and it killed me. Knowing that I could not perform the most basic function of protecting my child, because my health was that poor. So I just told myself, I gotta give this NSNG a try.&nbsp;</p>
<p>27:20 – I thought in, my head, that I was 450 pounds. After I started to lose weight. I started cleaning out my closet one day, and I realized I was wearing the exact same size clothing I was when I had my gastric bypass surgery now as a size 62 pant and in roughly a 7x shirt!</p>
<p>38:20 – I&#8217;ve learned how my personality works, I need to have a goal. When I have a goal, I am really dedicated to my training, my eating, and everything like that. So that&#8217;s when I announced it. So I paint myself into a corner and not like, do everything I can not to look like an idiot, if I just kept it to myself, or finally put myself down. I am looking to gain support down the road from companies. I&#8217;m not trying to get any of the glory out of this whatsoever, I can care less about that. But I know what it&#8217;s like man to be so hopeless. I don&#8217;t feel like anyone else has been more hopeless than what I felt, so I want to use this platform and this journey, going into this Ironman dream. All to spread the awareness of an event and our NSNG Lifestyle to just let other people know that you can too. I&#8217;m nobody special.&nbsp;</p>
<p>55:00 – We were taking my mother to the airport and the reason why she would get upset upon leaving was because she didn&#8217;t think she was gonna see me alive again.&nbsp;That&#8217;s a punch to the heart and how I felt, my health was so poor that I couldn&#8217;t protect my kid. My selfish decisions were so bad with my health. My selfish decisions with eating were also destroying my parents inside. They just didn&#8217;t couldn&#8217;t tell me, they didn&#8217;t know how to tell me. So just that lifestyle is just really hurting so many people I loved. It&#8217;s hard to tell, but it&#8217;s hard for them to tell me, but I found that to be a really, really, really powerful thing when she finally told me that.</p>

<p>07:45 &#8211; I think what my passion and purpose, to answer your question, is that I went from being an elite athlete to, fatigued, tired, depressed, gained 30 pounds overnight, just lost everything I had as an athlete and I felt like it was overnight. But it wasn&#8217;t and so that&#8217;s kind of my purpose now. Educating that what happened to me could happen to you. Let&#8217;s stop it now before you ignore it five years later, and end up me years later, still can&#8217;t do that.</p>
<p>13:45 &#8211; That&#8217;s what I did when I wrote my book, it was more for my own therapy session. But what were my red flags that happened for probably the 10 years before my breakdown? That happened in March 2013 that led me to that day it worked up so I wasn&#8217;t aware of it so I had to go back in time till like high school and go back. Where are these things happening that I was so oblivious to? So that is kind of a task I give everyone I work with is like let&#8217;s go back and see what are your stressors you know, what are things that are triggers for you that activate that stress response and you know, we know we know that acute stress is good beneficial, but when it comes like non-stop but just never turns off that when it gets to be trouble for our bodies.</p>
<p>20:00 &#8211; So what would you say if I just filled you with macronutrients with vitamins and minerals and everything you need, instead of a pill. You know, get it from your food and it&#8217;s hard, I take ton of supplements, but it&#8217;s hard to get that from your food. But ideally, it&#8217;s food. I read Michael Pollan&#8217;s book forever go, and he has the best thing like food. You can read the ingredients list that your great grandmother had in her house</p>
<p>30:00 &#8211; When I have people on my show. It&#8217;s like, what&#8217;s your Why? What&#8217;s your drive and, you know, follow your passion, your purpose, and I feel like my purpose of going through eight years of health imbalances that I had, is so I help other people avoid going through what I have had and so it&#8217;s finding out why so for me to help other people what I&#8217;ve decided is, you know, I can&#8217;t solicit people but just you want them to come to you when they&#8217;re ready for help because being a functional practitioner now and focusing that as my main business is health coaching, being health detective is really investigating with functional labs and nutritional therapy and quarterly now together to create an individualized protocol to transform, rebuild, repair the whole you.</p>
<p>39:30 &#8211; I learned years ago that it does a lot of that stuff doesn&#8217;t get through your stomach acid so if it doesn&#8217;t like I use a megaspore for base probiotic that can actually bypass acidic that&#8217;s supposed to prevent you know the bad things were going through and so it certain things might not even get into your small intestine, large intestine, so it is quality, a lot of that stuff.</p>
<p>44:30 &#8211;&nbsp;I went over my hormone panel and my hormones right down at the bottom of the line that you should, and I was like, oh, man, I&#8217;m pretty good. That means I could be better and don&#8217;t settle for just how you are now that you could even be so much more energetic and happier and thriving. We all can be so much more. So why do we just settle for this, there&#8217;s so much more we can do.</p>
<p>50:00 &#8211; I just did labs as it just went through and I did this other lab and I keep testing people, you know, encouraging people to do lab testing. Because I didn&#8217;t know as I said, what my microbiome is about. I did a pathogen test, and it&#8217;s not good. So I might feel like I&#8217;m thriving and my immune system is super strong. But I know some people that got coronavirus, and we&#8217;re sick for two weeks and they&#8217;re active, they&#8217;re fit, they&#8217;re not overweight, but why did they get really sick from it?</p>

<p>I just think take ownership of your health for your body. You&#8217;ve got one body, you know, you do it for your car, you take your car in for repair, oil, lube change, you get new tires, getting alignment, etc. So why don&#8217;t we invest the amount of money we do on our cars to our own bodies? I don&#8217;t get it.</p>

<li>[11:35] If you’re a food addict, you’re using food, there’s a difference between eating food and eating to live and using food to cope. So you have to learn different tools and techniques. So with that, when you are feeling major stress, which is life, you’ve got to learn how to calm yourself down. Learn how to not go to the food first.</li>

People are not going to like me when I say this, but it’s what I believe. There is an emotional maturity level, their EQ, not their IQ, we’re talking about here. Some of them are very intelligent, however, we’re talking about EQ here, emotional maturity is what they lack.</li>
<li>[30:00] I love that there’s a person who lives in my area and she’s big on educating the kids. I think that’s wonderful. But I think it’s futile. Because a child does not go food shopping, the child does not make their meals, you must as a parent, take that responsibility. I’m not knocking parents, I believe every mother wants the best for their child and they’re doing the best that they can. They really were just uneducated on these topics.</li>

<p>You have got to be you. Everybody’s pain threshold is different but you’ve got to know when you hit it. When I was ready, I was done. There wasn’t enough. I had eaten every food more than 1000 times. I was so done because I just couldn’t take the pain anymore. The mental insanity and the physically uncomfortable feelings meant that I just was done.</p>
<p>I was like, you know, I’m 45, I’m halfway through my life! I’m not willing to continue to live this way anymore. I have three young girls and I have to be their role model. You get one shot at life. Just one!</p>

<p><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p>Dr. DeWitt is a Vanderbilt University graduate who earned a full athletic scholarship after his first semester. He went on to become the starting defensive end for the next four years and was awarded the Wade Looney Award for outstanding work ethic. He continued his football career with the NFL Houston Oilers, NFL Europe Champion Scottish Claymores, Montreal Alouettes of the CFL, San Francisco Demons of the XFL, and several teams in the AFL including three seasons with the LA Avengers.</p>
<p>After retiring from football, Dr. DeWitt earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Los Angeles Chiropractic College. He is practicing in Orange County, at Bergman Family Chiropractic, specializing in personal injury cases and corrective chiropractic care.</p>
<p>He is certified as a Golf Injury Specialist and an Advanced Sports Nutrition Specialist, Certified in <strong>Concussion</strong> Assessment.</p>
<p>Nutrition-based healing for concussions is gaining recognition for the vast research supporting not only how to treat a concussion more effectively and naturally, but also because nutrition helps prevent serious effects of traumatic brain injuries.</p>
<p>Dr. DeWitt provides an &#8220;in the trenches&#8221; perspective on concussions and what they can do over the course of a lifetime for anyone in almost any sport.</p>
<p>During his playing days, Dr. DeWitt personally experienced multiple concussions which he didn’t think much about. “Getting your bell rung” was part of the game. It wasn’t until the movie Concussion came out that he revisited these injuries and was inspired to write the book, Head Games: Concussions and CTE, Where Do We Go From Here?</p>
<p>More recently, his father has been diagnosed with early onset cognitive decline which has caused him to double his efforts on researching brain health. He has a daily podcast on blogtalk radio called BrainBuilders and has an online course called BrainBuilders Masterclass. He shares the latest research on strategies that are stopping and REVERSING cognitive decline in those suffering with all forms of cognitive issues from Alzheimer’s to CTE.</p>
<p>He has written over a dozen books on Golf Injuries, Natural Vision Correction, How to Earn a College Scholarship, Goal Setting and more.</p>

<p>Right now Erin and Dr. Megan Cannon of Mind of the Athlete are working hard to bring about some change in how people approach their bodies and their health. They are starting a program and launching a group that is meeting at Mind of the Athlete, starting January 9th 2017 called BALANCE. It is all about approaching your body image and your <strong>nutrition</strong> from a healthy place to build health. More than focusing on trying to lose weight. A lot of people miss the boat trying to make the number on the scale smaller. They make themselves much less healthy. Sometimes they just don&#8217;t know how to do it well.</p>
