<p>09:30 &#8211; I can tell you during the last 25 years, we have dug our graves with our forks. We have single handedly destroyed our own bodies through diet, through what we&#8217;re putting on our bodies and in our bodies. What we eat, whatever we&#8217;re drinking, etc. I&#8217;ve been doing this 25 years and the average age coming into our clinic is 50 to 55. That is when disease typically sets in. Because the human body can only handle the onslaught of everything we do to it for decade after decade after decade, or right until we hit the fifth decade.&nbsp;</p>
<p>17:30 &#8211; We must begin to restore the human digestive tract. That&#8217;s the first aspect of metabolism. So that&#8217;s how you do it, you have to start by healing the gut. That&#8217;s where the Gerson Therapy has reigned supreme. That&#8217;s why eight movies chronicled our work. That picture you showed of Albert Schweitzer Nobel Peace Prize winner called Gerson the greatest genius in medical history, you know, so this is where it starts is by starting to restore metabolism.&nbsp;</p>
<p>23:20 &#8211; I&#8217;d like to address your question on what do we do about healthy fats. I mentioned how we heal the first aspect of human metabolism, how we restore metabolism, it starts in the gut 70% of your immune system. There&#8217;s three aspects of metabolism, we have to restore to be able to cure patients. The next step is restoring the proper fats at the level of a cell membrane. So now you&#8217;ve healed the gut, you&#8217;re properly able to break down and absorb nutrients into the bloodstream again. Now you have to get those nutrients and sugars into the cell and you need to get oxygen into the cell to be able to convert sugar into energy.&nbsp;</p>
<p>31:15 &#8211; We&#8217;ve essentially reestablished the charge at the level of the cell membrane with polyunsaturated fat in the form of only flax oil. Once they&#8217;re cured, they can go back, Gerson would say follow an 80/20 rule, 80%. You must maintain those principles of his dietary regimen, just the principles, you don&#8217;t have to do 80% of the juicing, 80% of the coffee enemas, which we haven&#8217;t even talked about yet. But an 80/20 rule, 80% Stick to the principles. 20% Enjoy yourself, right? Have a steak, have some butter, have some coconut oil, you know, that wasn&#8217;t a problem.</p>
<p>41:20 &#8211; Look at the dumbing down of America, which has taken place over the last several decades. Ralph Nader, the guy who would always run as an independent for the presidency&#8230; He was once quoted as saying, living in the United States is like being in a football stadium filled with 330 million screaming obnoxious fans, you&#8217;re standing on the 50 yard line, and you manage to shut them up for about 20 seconds, and you scream out, is there anybody in the stadium who can tell me the difference between ignorance and apathy, and 99.999% all yell back, we don&#8217;t know an we don&#8217;t care! If you can keep people entertained 24/7, with Hollywood, with sports, with music, you can do whatever you want to them. They have dumbed down the American people and world public, they&#8217;ve made them apathetic and ignorant. That&#8217;s ultimately what it comes down to. People stop questioning, and they&#8217;ve trusted what they&#8217;ve seen on the boob tube. They just haven&#8217;t really questioned the things that have been presented to them over the last 3-4-5-6 decades, people have no clue that the cure for cancer has been around for over 100 years. That&#8217;s mind boggling.</p>

<h2><strong>Our Final Words of the Show: </strong></h2>
<p>The Gerson Therapy historically has been a therapy to treat advanced disease. You&#8217;ve heard the adage, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, right? Well, the day and age that we live in today, now, this therapy has to become a means of just prevention. Rather than just treating disease, we are under the greatest onslaught in history of everything from toxicity, to poor food. More importantly, what we really didn&#8217;t delve into, and that&#8217;s the elephant in the room, the pandemic and the agenda behind all that. The things that they&#8217;re doing to us right now, people have got to wake up or they are going to be experiencing disease.</p>
<p>These diseases are arriving so quick, so aggressive now. These cancers are so much more aggressive, and just happening almost overnight. I mean, it truly is just insane to watch what&#8217;s going on, because my clinic is a microcosm of what&#8217;s going on in the world. Just in the last two to three years since the pandemic, but things are coming in the aggressive nature of the cancer. It is getting crazy and they&#8217;re not done. So this therapy becomes more of a means of prevention, let alone trying to heal an advanced disease like a terminal Cancer.</p>
<p>The unfortunate thing is, is that people, most people, they won&#8217;t do what they need to do until they&#8217;re on their deathbed. That is the unfortunate reality. Foods become so social, so emotional, and people no longer have the discipline to combat that and do what they need to do eat to live, rather than live to eat.</p>

<p>07:45 &#8211; I think what my passion and purpose, to answer your question, is that I went from being an elite athlete to, fatigued, tired, depressed, gained 30 pounds overnight, just lost everything I had as an athlete and I felt like it was overnight. But it wasn&#8217;t and so that&#8217;s kind of my purpose now. Educating that what happened to me could happen to you. Let&#8217;s stop it now before you ignore it five years later, and end up me years later, still can&#8217;t do that.</p>
<p>13:45 &#8211; That&#8217;s what I did when I wrote my book, it was more for my own therapy session. But what were my red flags that happened for probably the 10 years before my breakdown? That happened in March 2013 that led me to that day it worked up so I wasn&#8217;t aware of it so I had to go back in time till like high school and go back. Where are these things happening that I was so oblivious to? So that is kind of a task I give everyone I work with is like let&#8217;s go back and see what are your stressors you know, what are things that are triggers for you that activate that stress response and you know, we know we know that acute stress is good beneficial, but when it comes like non-stop but just never turns off that when it gets to be trouble for our bodies.</p>
<p>20:00 &#8211; So what would you say if I just filled you with macronutrients with vitamins and minerals and everything you need, instead of a pill. You know, get it from your food and it&#8217;s hard, I take ton of supplements, but it&#8217;s hard to get that from your food. But ideally, it&#8217;s food. I read Michael Pollan&#8217;s book forever go, and he has the best thing like food. You can read the ingredients list that your great grandmother had in her house</p>
<p>30:00 &#8211; When I have people on my show. It&#8217;s like, what&#8217;s your Why? What&#8217;s your drive and, you know, follow your passion, your purpose, and I feel like my purpose of going through eight years of health imbalances that I had, is so I help other people avoid going through what I have had and so it&#8217;s finding out why so for me to help other people what I&#8217;ve decided is, you know, I can&#8217;t solicit people but just you want them to come to you when they&#8217;re ready for help because being a functional practitioner now and focusing that as my main business is health coaching, being health detective is really investigating with functional labs and nutritional therapy and quarterly now together to create an individualized protocol to transform, rebuild, repair the whole you.</p>
<p>39:30 &#8211; I learned years ago that it does a lot of that stuff doesn&#8217;t get through your stomach acid so if it doesn&#8217;t like I use a megaspore for base probiotic that can actually bypass acidic that&#8217;s supposed to prevent you know the bad things were going through and so it certain things might not even get into your small intestine, large intestine, so it is quality, a lot of that stuff.</p>
<p>44:30 &#8211;&nbsp;I went over my hormone panel and my hormones right down at the bottom of the line that you should, and I was like, oh, man, I&#8217;m pretty good. That means I could be better and don&#8217;t settle for just how you are now that you could even be so much more energetic and happier and thriving. We all can be so much more. So why do we just settle for this, there&#8217;s so much more we can do.</p>
<p>50:00 &#8211; I just did labs as it just went through and I did this other lab and I keep testing people, you know, encouraging people to do lab testing. Because I didn&#8217;t know as I said, what my microbiome is about. I did a pathogen test, and it&#8217;s not good. So I might feel like I&#8217;m thriving and my immune system is super strong. But I know some people that got coronavirus, and we&#8217;re sick for two weeks and they&#8217;re active, they&#8217;re fit, they&#8217;re not overweight, but why did they get really sick from it?</p>

<p>I just think take ownership of your health for your body. You&#8217;ve got one body, you know, you do it for your car, you take your car in for repair, oil, lube change, you get new tires, getting alignment, etc. So why don&#8217;t we invest the amount of money we do on our cars to our own bodies? I don&#8217;t get it.</p>

<p>10:00: I started rock climbing this year and I thought that was a good idea. I decided that that would be part of my getting older and mobility. I love it because I was doing CrossFit too.</p>
<p>20:00: So it&#8217;s just strategic looking when someone is doing dry needling. They&#8217;re going after the trigger point in the muscle. So they&#8217;re going to take that needle, and they&#8217;re going to go directly for the trigger point. It&#8217;s not an acupuncture point, let&#8217;s put it this way, some acupuncture points happen to be trigger points, but typically they&#8217;re not acupuncture points.</p>
<p>34:00: If you legit know something&#8217;s wrong and none of your tricks are working, I usually would say it&#8217;s time to go talk to somebody. It doesn&#8217;t matter how tough of a guy you are, I know, I fight with the firefighters too. I see this in my practice, I&#8217;m like, I don&#8217;t care. I&#8217;m not gonna make fun of you. You&#8217;ve got to pay attention to science because if you blow it off too long, it&#8217;s gonna be a big problem. That&#8217;s what I do, I try to save people from the big problems that come up.</p>
<p>40:00: The top of antibiotics can be sensitive. My sister in law is on a really hardcore antibiotic right now. I know most people go into the grocery store and are making the guessing game on their probiotics. You should take something while you&#8217;re on the antibiotic because you&#8217;re just thrashing your gut bacteria and that is ravaging that.</p>
<p>50:00: For folks listening out there, medical doctors can be functional medicine focused too. I think for a lot of people, we get a little confusion in terms of our medical doctors vs functional medicine doctors. Naturopaths can also be functional medicine doctors and actually, we can be both. It&#8217;s just additional education.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The two best things that I&#8217;d like to have folks hear and no matter whether they&#8217;re my patients or anyone listening to your podcast, or my podcasts, anyone out there in the world paying attention to the little things, little symptoms that show up that are nagging you day in, day out&#8230; Write them suckers down and pay attention a little bit to when they&#8217;re happening. Then either if you&#8217;re not comfortable with the MD, find a naturopath, find a functional medicine doc or naturopath and ask questions. Why am I having these symptoms, investigate it further? I&#8217;m a fan of Google doctoring.&nbsp;</p>

<li>[10:00] You can do your own health checkup. But you got to get a battery of testing done. Luckily, there’s a lot of services now you get a blood test, a stool test, you can get everything tested. But then you’re looking at money and you’re looking at it really taking a while to just figure out the best way to interpret everything.</li>
<li>[20:00] The Braverman Assessment, the same Dr. Braverman of Pathmed. His book in this mindset really kind of changed my life and changed how I view brain health. What he does is he’s just connecting mood mindset and anything brain-related. He’s connecting back to these four main neurotransmitters. So he has this assessment, the Braverman assessment, you can take it and it takes about 20 minutes to complete.</li>
<li>[30:00] I kind of consider it like an entry into our brand, or an entry into thinking about brain health. A lot of people are skeptical of taking supplements in general. We&nbsp;noticed that and I wanted to fight against that. So we do make everything fully transparent. So we put all of our ingredient suppliers. We put it all out there, where every ingredient came from.</li>
<li>[41:40] I’m gonna start with the basics for sure. Diet is something that most people don’t get. The keto thing is obviously hot right now. It does have real benefits. I don’t think it’s for everyone.</li>
<li>[52:00] You have got to get your sleep. That’s kind of what the first thing is because if you don’t sleep enough, and you don’t get high-quality sleep, you’re a zombie the next day. Some people kind of get used to that and they’re walking around like zombies.</li>

<p>This is something that stuck with me for a long time, from when I was traveling in South America in 2007. I spent a couple of months traveling around and I was in the backseat of a bus in Bolivia. This white guy, very kind of rough-looking guy, you can tell he’d been there for a while, he comes off the bus. I’m like, jeez, what is this? What’s this guy doing? I’m just like this tourist guy and he’s just in it. I hear him tell the story that he was going to buy it. He’s traveling like six hours to buy a new teapot.</p>
<p>It really says something for the simple things in life. That got him going. He then went into this whole story on every problem comes with opportunities, and how he just got stuck down there for some reason. I didn’t ask questions, but he did make a huge opportunity of it. He now grows organic produce on his farm and he’s really loving his life down there.&nbsp;I took that with me, that and other people have said this statement that with every problem, there’s an opportunity.</p>

<li>[11:00] It’s definitely a lifestyle approach. The way I like to describe it to a lot of my clients is kind of like a pyramid. We all remember the old food pyramid where the bottom was bread and carbs and towards the top was maybe candy, but there were very little fats in there very little protein sources.</li>
<li>[20:00] Eating cholesterol does not raise your cholesterol. It goes back to the whole lifestyle picture. I eat whole eggs every single day for breakfast. I eat red meat, I eat a lot of foods that have cholesterol in it, but my cholesterol levels are very, very low. When we combine things like processed foods with processed sugars, and then lots of inflammatory fats like industrial seed oils, vegetable oils, all of those combined in one, those are really the enemies that we need to be aware of.</li>
<li>[31:00] I already was doing nutrition coaching. I was raised more on an athletic side, so I was helping with weight loss, I was helping with building muscle athletic performance. So I was already doing that. I’ve always enjoyed working with people and helping other people. But there’s something just different about helping other people improve their quality of life. Going from where they are, I’m miserable, I can’t eat anything and to be able to like eat something without feeling miserable after it. That just feels awesome to be able to help people to that extent. So I love helping people get six-pack abs and all that if that’s what they want to do. But just to truly be able to improve people’s quality of life, that’s a whole other level for me.</li>
<li>[42:00] A cow that’s fed grains is going to have much higher rates of omega-six fats compared to omega threes when a cow has been grass-fed. It’ll still have some omega sixes. It’s not going to have nearly the extent of a grain-fed cow. So omega sixes for people who don’t know, are pro-inflammatory fatty acids. Omega threes are anti-inflammatory. So we do need both in the body. But with typical Standard American Diet aka SAD Diet, we tend to get way more of the omega sixes that are pro-inflammatory. We are not getting enough of the omega threes that are anti-inflammatory. So we have a lot of people suffering from chronic inflammation and cholesterol issues. We are not saying that everybody needs to go outsource their cow. But they do need to pay attention, i.e. where’s your food coming from? Read the food labels, it blows my mind when people will just purchase “foods” and they did even look at what’s in the food that they’re eating.</li>
<li>[52:00] I can hand someone over the perfect nutrition plan and be like, if you follow this, you will get great results, you’ll be fit, you’ll feel great. But there’s often a lot more barriers than that. A lot of it goes back to mindset and motivation. Lack of confidence contributes to why can’t we follow it, it’s not always that black and white. I actually end up doing a lot more mindset counseling as well to in addition to the nutrition side of things under my Functional Medicine practices.</li>

<p><strong><em>“You’re Worth It!”</em></strong></p>
<p>I would say kind of going back to a lot of the things we’ve talked about is just your health. Honestly, it is well if your health is the foundation for everything and not just the way you look. And it affects everything, it affects your business, it’s going to affect your relationships with your family, it’s going to affect your confidence. If you want to reach new levels of success, and you want to really be at the top of your game with your business with your life. You need to be looking at the Foundation, you need to be looking at our diet, or exercise or hydration levels. That’s going to transpose to all areas of your life. So I would encourage people to just start with the basics, looking at their lifestyle, and building that up and going from there. So building the self-discipline and also just knowing you are enough and knowing “<strong><em>you’re worth it”</em></strong><em> </em>too because I think a lot of people struggle with self-doubt, low confidence, and building up like what Andy Frisella even talks about a lot in his Podcast. I didn&#8217;t know if some were even actually working.</li>

Autism has really shown us how bad things can be. <p>I just want people to have to be able to heal themselves, people that are suffering, need to understand that you have to heal holistically to really heal properly. So that&#8217;s why Mind-Body Medicine is such a huge platform for me, and why support functional and integrative medicine.</p>

That&#8217;s what I want to teach people because I didn&#8217;t really heal from my illnesses until I heal them in the body and the emotions that are in the mindset. <p>People are starting to understand that this is what lifestyle medicine is, it is for medicine as holistic health. Now, with what we&#8217;ve learned through science, spiritual practices, mindset, the special plant foods, I call the plant healers that heal people, it&#8217;s got to be done in tandem. You gotta have each part equal, you know, equal player and band-aids.</p>

<p>First, I think if you&#8217;re listening to the podcast, you probably have an interest in health and performance and being the next level you wouldn&#8217;t be otherwise you&#8217;d be watching something&nbsp;distracting. So first I want to honor that.</p>
<p>Second I want to say is be willing to experiment, be willing to take steps you can always on to nowadays you can usually find someone that&#8217;s already been down that pathway that you want to experiment with and you can see if that works for you. I think that&#8217;s a great tool.</p>
<p>Third, always keep learning because the game keeps changing all the time.</p>
<p>Then the final piece I would say is don&#8217;t underestimate the power of fixing your digestive system. My business partner is a ketogenic guy, I&#8217;m a vegetarian, we&#8217;re both as far off the spectrum of mutual formats or dietary choices. We&#8217;re dietary agnostic, and what I mean by that is that I think that everybody should choose the diet that works for their lifestyle, their genetics, and epigenetics. Remain flexible enough that they&#8217;re willing to spend a bit of time experimenting with other things in order to see if there&#8217;s something they might be able to add from some other perspective as opposed to narrowly attacking other people because they&#8217;re doing something that&#8217;s right for them, which I think is so asinine.</p>

The problem is that the environment is so toxic to that person and that person is so poorly educated in fact, he&#8217;s indoctrinated into beliefs that were guaranteed at this dysfunctional level of health or certainly what they&#8217;re capable of. Plus, that there&#8217;s almost no hope for that individual unless they want to make radical statements and follow people who are willing to go out and fail and try these other things and come back and say, hey, look, here&#8217;s what I learned about this, try and avoid this.</li>

<p>My all-encompassing&nbsp;message is, &#8220;it&#8217;s just food.&nbsp;It&#8217;s not your whole life. It&#8217;s not love. It&#8217;s not your family. Somewhere along the lines, food got out of order on our list of priorities, as I said with the oxygen analogy. So if we can just put it back to where it belongs, to me, support needs to be high quality, but it&#8217;s not your friend. It&#8217;s not entertainment. It needs to to be healthy. It needs to be good, but it&#8217;s not the answer to any of our problems other than hunger.</p>

<p>Ann-Marie graduated from the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon, an accredited 4 year Doctoral program that is considered a leader in evidence-based medicine, and the first Chiropractic school to be awarded a federal research grant.</p>
<p>Dr. Barter underwent rigorous clinical training with some of the finest chiropractors. Ann has also undergone advanced training in Applied Kinesiology, completing over 400 extra classroom hours and is certified to practice Applied Kinesiology. She has also studied Functional Blood Chemistry under Dr. Kharrazian.</p>
<p>She has taken an interest in optimizing health by incorporating diet counseling, whole food supplementation, herbal therapy, wellness and lifestyle coaching, scar tissue work, deep tissue massage, and exercise programs.</p>
<p>Dr. Barter has completed the 18 hours required for certification by The Running Clinic for: New Trends in the Prevention of Running Injuries. This training course has been delivered more than a hundred times, on 5 continents! It has been developed using the most recent scientific evidence, it questions several current unjustified practices. The techniques learned in this class help Dr. Barter better assess her patients and aids in making recommendations for avoiding future running-related injuries.</p>
<h3>Ann&#8217;s Bio Continued:</h3>
<p>Medicine is a second career and passion for Dr. Barter. Initially, she worked at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Fort Worth, Texas negotiating major systems for their fighter jet program. She excelled at difficult negotiations and was able to hit challenging company goals.</p>
<p>Ann is passionate about chiropractic, helping people get out of pain and reach their maximum potential. Chiropractic changed Dr. Barter’s life. When she was in initially introduced to chiropractic (in her early 20’s) she was skeptical. The more educated she became in the art of chiropractic, the more interested and intrigued she became, until she finally asked for an adjustment from a family friend who practices chiropractic. The treatment was like magic. He not only adjusted her spine but also her feet, hips, knees, wrists, and elbows. She felt new and light, like a better version of herself. He also took extra time to put her on a specific dietary protocol and nutritional regimen, from which she realized major positive changes. She excelled academically, experienced less gastrointestinal upset, reduced brain-fog, lost weight, and started to enjoy activities like hiking, because her foot mechanics had been changed.</p>
<p>Dr. Barter has been active in athletics her entire life. For 17 years Dr. Barter was a competitive dancer. It&#8217;s also that time of year, it was kind of rocky, I mean the conditions were ice they closed a week later.</li>

I was a competitive dancer and a competitive runner but I did a lot of my growing up in Texas, which is pretty flat. So there&#8217;s none of the mountain experience that you can have. I actually didn&#8217;t like to hike as a kid I used to whine about it because my feet were really bad and so it hurt me to walk and hike.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;19:19&#8243;] I found chiropractic when I was in college because I had all kinds of gut and gastrointestinal problems and I found alternative health. So my story into alternative health is this, I remember having such bad period cramps I went to my MD, right? Well she actually just said you know, suck it up.</li>

Fast forward a few years I&#8217;m in college and I start breaking out into hives all over my body and an anaphylaxis reaction. Trip after trip to the emergency room, they give me Benadryl on top of Benadryl, nobody ever talked to me about diet, lifestyle, anything.</li>

Your body produces glutathione. In fact, it&#8217;s a major antioxidant. One of the most powerful antioxidants in the body.</li>

I literally think I felt how frustrated people feel when they&#8217;re trying to change their diet for the first time because it was so hard. I couldn&#8217;t find any foods to eat because I don&#8217;t need a ton of grains. I don&#8217;t eat soy.</li>

<p>Being a practitioner, sometimes practitioners don&#8217;t connect because there&#8217;s this concern about scarcity and they don&#8217;t do what&#8217;s best for the patient. It can be working with our MD or working with a surgeon or whomever it is, to give them the best care when we integrate.</p>
<p>It is powerful medicine because multiple eyes looking at one thing is so much better than one set of eyes looking at one thing. I just think people really do need to take control of their health.</p>
<p>The people that I see coming in here, they are 20 years old, especially in my Denver location. They&#8217;re 20 years old, they&#8217;re struggling with crazy things that they cannot get to the bottom of. I mean we&#8217;re talking eczema, we&#8217;re talking about abscesses in their large intestines. You have to take these alternative methods seriously earlier, because, you know, you&#8217;re going to have a much better life, you&#8217;re going to have a much better quality of life. I don&#8217;t know why people don&#8217;t want to do that. I don&#8217;t know why people don&#8217;t want to embrace that. It&#8217;s just baffles me.</p>
