<p>08:46 – Chronic stress is absolutely devastating to your health. I mean, even the research has been done with cortisol levels and normal &#8220;healthy people&#8221;, and just the high end of normal, meaning that they were not pathological. They didn&#8217;t have any disease. They were losing bone mass faster than the people whose cortisol levels were lower. Cortisol also changes the gut microbiome. When it&#8217;s elevated a lot of the researchers with medications like prednisone, which is basically cortisol on steroids itself, and high doses, but even low doses of short term create osteoporosis and increase fracture risk. But they destroy muscle microfibrils, and it decreases your body&#8217;s ability to produce collagen. The stress also makes the collagen that is present there even more fragile. So it&#8217;s just this recipe for this systemic breakdown throughout your body of the connective tissue, not to mention the gut health, and, you know, it&#8217;s drag on your energy and damage to mitochondria.</p>
<p>13:15 – If recovering from all this chronic stress, if they&#8217;ve got symptoms of adrenal fatigue and or we&#8217;ve tested it and it&#8217;s shown it, I like to have them exercise just to the point where they are sweating and then to stop. That way you get the cardiovascular benefits. It gets the heart rate up, it boosts the immune system, but it doesn&#8217;t over stress the the adrenal glands any further. </p>
<p>17:30 – A really insidious effect of cortisol and that chronic stress research has shown it actually shrinks brain size. It decreases the volume of your brain.</p>
<p>37:52 – In Japan, they actually prescribe forest bathing, grounding, i.e. go out into nature. It&#8217;s prescribed. The other thing is when you&#8217;re in that stressful situation, back to cortisol in a stressful position in your house, or you&#8217;re just wound up, it changes the blood flow in your brain. Your prefrontal cortex is for decision making and being able to understand the results of your actions. So if this is comprimised, it will impact your ability to gauge which is going to be the best decision, it decreases the blood flow to that area, and it increases the blood flow to other areas of the brain, where it&#8217;s more fight or flight, where it&#8217;s let&#8217;s get out of here. In fact, research has shown that when people are under stress, they cannot anticipate how the negative consequences of their behaviors, because they just want to escape, and so they make worse decisions.</p>
<p>01:01:20 – Bioavailable, so, what does that mean? It means you can absorb it better, and that&#8217;s true, MK7 is more bioavailable than MK4, but that doesn&#8217;t mean that it works better in your body. Does that guarantee a utilization? Not at all. So MK7 and MK4 are both forms of Vitamin k2 but they&#8217;re different molecules. So you know, as we know, in biochemistry, if you change just one carbon atom or one atom on a molecule, you can get overlapping but you also get very different effects. So I already mentioned, MK4 has been shown to stop and reverse bone loss and maintain bone strength. MK7, in all doses tested, has never been shown to stop bone loss or reverse it, only slow down how fast somebody loses bone? </p>
<p>01:14:00 – On the topic of accurate supplement labeling, I love that topic, and that&#8217;s we have three versions of that product. Each have the highest dose of MK4 available, 45 milligrams per day, with 2000 I use a vitamin d3 the dose shown in clinical trials to work, and then different amounts of calcium, because not everybody needs the same amount of calcium in a dietary supplement, and a lot of people don&#8217;t even need calcium as a dietary supplement. So that&#8217;s got the full dose of calcium, 1000 milligrams per day. Take two servings a day, osteo K minis, which is, I think, a better formula for most women. It has less calcium. It has 400 milligrams per day, right next to that. And the osteo MK4 has no calcium, just the MK4 and vitamin d3 for people who don&#8217;t need extra calcium.</p>

<h2><strong>Our Final Words of the Show:</strong></h2>
<p>The reason I started, aside from getting frustrated by not having the supplements that I needed for my patients, where I started focusing on bone health and osteoporosis, is because my mother in law, at the time had osteoporosis. I thought I was doing a good job with her and my patients. I was, you know, helping her with some dietary supplements and nutrition and exercise advice. And her doctor had her on fossamax. Her physician her bone density was going up. So she was happy. Her physician was happy. I was happy. My patient&#8217;s bone density was going up. So I was happy. Then my mother in law fell, tripped on a throw rug and broke her hip. And I thought to myself, something is wrong with this picture. So I started diving into the research on osteoporosis and bone health, and I was shocked by what I found, that a bone density test only predicts 44% of women with osteoporosis who fracture only 21% of men, and yet that number on that test is almost exclusively what&#8217;s treated and tracked conventionally. And in fact, when it comes to the Osteoporosis medications, the change in bone density is not even an indicator that that medication is reducing their fracture risk that&#8217;s well documented in the clinical trials. And so my passion for continuing to research on osteoporosis and bone health, lecture at medical conferences, write my book, create products to help people support their their bone health and their physiology in that way, if I can have an overarching legacy when I&#8217;m when I&#8217;m gone, my hope is that it will move the needle nationally in terms of how clinically doctors approach this condition, and the entire focus of it changes from just being addressing a number on a test to what can we do to reduce people&#8217;s fracture risk, because that&#8217;s the most dangerous thing with this condition, and fracture risk depends largely, mostly on factors other than bone density.</p>

<p>17:40 – So your eyes picked up on that, you had the senses that picked out that. I think that&#8217;s the thing, is when people are buying crapola from Costco, and they don&#8217;t really actually know what low quality food is. When you don&#8217;t have the experience of knowing what real nutrient dense food looks and it feels like your senses are completely turned off. </p>
<p>22:25 – That is an important point when you&#8217;re in Fire and you&#8217;ve got those store stops that may be in a Walmart, or they may be in some rural Montana, Idaho, Nevada, California, environment where you&#8217;re subjected to whatever is available. Eggs are always going to be more nutrient dense than Hot Pockets. Eggs are a Superfood. </p>
<p>25:25 – The government just ensures basic food safety. Those are huge food sourcing contracts that go to the lowest bidder, and they can get around all kinds of logical things about bringing in actual good food by quoting food safety laws. So they&#8217;re like, oh, we&#8217;ve got to make it shelf stable, otherwise people are going to die of food poisoning. What are those chances?</p>
<p>49:44 – &nbsp;Ben Lynch is the doctor, he&#8217;s the one that wrote the book Dirty Genes, where I learned about that genetic marker regarding patients with gray hair.</p>
<p>50:35 – I didn&#8217;t know anything when I started, and then I started to feel like, oh, you know, things could be better. Just before I did fire, I worked for a woman who was a physician. She quit her medical practice to open up a business. She opened up a restaurant that was all about using nutrition to support people with chronic health conditions. Impacting areas like Cancer, it was so amazing. So this is like in the late 90s, when the Institute for Functional Medicine was just starting. So we were really lucky, because we got to work there, and we got to have people come in and talk to us about inflammation, which at the time was as evolved as a conversation could possibly be, and now it&#8217;s evolving. </p>
<p>01:10:15 – It&#8217;s a lot of people in fire, I think, you and I have a very dopamine dominant brain type. So they love that high energy input, those kind of big exposures, those big experiences, to keep them up, up, up. Then, once it&#8217;s over, those inputs are gone and they&#8217;re left to their own devices. So what do you do in that situation? Will you drink because you&#8217;re still trying to get so much? I think you know, when you understand certain mechanisms about mental health and how to support it using just diet and lifestyle interventions that are really specific to somebody in that lifestyle, then you really have a different outcome and a different experience. I put on a webinar this last I guess it would be spring, where I was talking about the foundations of mental health, using nutritional considerations for firefighters. It was great. It was well attended. </p>

<p>So emotional regulation, the children just lacked so many things that will just contribute to their ability to function in society. You can see that on them still, like they&#8217;re going through grades, and they&#8217;re just like, kids that are just groups of kids that are just fucked up, or total fucking assholes, and it&#8217;s just like, we did this. We did this. People just went along with it and they were like, it&#8217;s for public health. So I started arguing with the school board and medical providers in the community, because I&#8217;m like, you guys got to show me some information. I mean, doing a simple study on do masks work or not? That&#8217;s not hard, because there were schools everywhere else that were not wearing masks, and did they have worse outbreaks? </p>

<p>06:30 – It&#8217;s just crazy how much money they&#8217;re making. But one thing that did not work was liposomal glutathione, and it doesn&#8217;t work on me. I said, wait a second, I was getting results, but not getting results for everything, not for all my patients.</p>
<p>10:35 – I started looking at the research, and I figured out that in 1991 there was a study done. It&#8217;s published in the in the NIH, now on the PubMed, so it&#8217;s all over the place, that they give two grams of IV push, of glutathione, 100% of glutathione was in the urine in five to fifteen minutes. </p>
<p>19:15 – The body is absorbing it, breaking it down, taking all the building blocks and producing its own glutathione. Now, if you have a gene mutation, gstp, gstm or GGT, if you have enzyme defects, you cannot conjugate glutathione. I don&#8217;t care what product you take. </p>
<p>37:18 – So that&#8217;s the reason why glutathione is so important to everybody to keep this door shut at all times on the bad. But now, if you shut the door down and there is a damage inside your body, you still have to fix the damages. You still have to eat the right nutrients and do the right things, or people do stem cells therapy, or people do all kinds of things to basically get all the dirt ready. Yeah, once the dirt is ready and dumped into the liver, guess what, glutathione can go back and take the dirt and get rid of it too.</p>
<p>52:00 – So for healthy subjects, we find out what the dose was going to be. It started after we released the product in 2020, then we found out that many of the people, they are sick, they need higher glutathione. So a year later is when we released the stronger version. So the stronger version is good for people that have high needs of glutathione, and it&#8217;s just a temporary need. Anyways, they use it for three months, six months, up to a year, year and a half, and then they go back to the regular version for rest of their life. Keep in mind, the body recycles things. 50% of glutathione gets recycled by the body, which is due to oxidative stress. If it&#8217;s conjugation, the body gets destroyed. The body destroys all the glutathione. If you drink alcohol, all the glutathione is destroyed. </p>
<p>56:30 – So you can quit alcohol today. You can help heal, you can aid your body. It takes some help with glutathione to kind of do the work for liver until the liver gets healthy, but in 12 to 15 months, you can literally improve your liver health to go back to normal as best as possible again, which is essential for long term health. </p>

<p>02:00 – Headaches are a hot subject for me, I got into it bcause of my headaches and my my lust for performance. I was a natural bodybuilder at the time and I&#8217;d get pounding headaches every time I did bench press.</p>
<p>10:30 – If the pec or clavicular muscle is not firing properly, we look at stomach function. If they have a low back pain in the flank area, we look at large intestine function. So when we we identify what the primary weakness is, and that&#8217;s the beauty of of headaches for me, I&#8217;ll circle back to that. But again, every muscle has associated organs. When we find these organ dysfunctions, these weaknesses, then we look at, is it a structural need or structural compromise that&#8217;s compromised in the muscle?</p>
<p>15:10 – It could be that you&#8217;re drinking your water out of a plastic bottle and you&#8217;re getting the estrogenic effects from from the plastics. It&#8217;s because at one of those pathways in the liver, we were just referring to, like your glutathione pathway. Maybe that&#8217;s not breaking the hormones down properly and it&#8217;s setting you up for this type of headache. So I would suspect when you&#8217;re currently on your your glutathione products, that you&#8217;re proably going to be a lot less likely to have those types of headaches. </p>
<p>26:15 – We want to keep the keep the toxic metals out, which means pesticides and that sort of stuff. So eating the organic vegetables, getting those, you know, grains are all adulterated. They have that Roundup influence, the glyphosate in there that compromises gallbladder function, which is why the right sided headache is the most common type of headache in America. </p>
<p>37:15 – When we&#8217;re stuck in that state, then we get the frontal headaches. We have compromised the stomach lining. You know, cortisol is a catabolic hormone, ultimately, and which means it breaks the body down. It&#8217;s going to break down muscle. So certainly, when we&#8217;re over training, we&#8217;re breaking down muscle. We need to then heal up and recover properly. So that frontal headache means that you&#8217;re not managing that, the body&#8217;s not managing the stress hormones properly, and it&#8217;s going to manifest as a frontal. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s about changing the way people perceive health and what their body is trying to tell them pain is, I mean, with the applied kinesiology that the approach to healthcare that I use, it&#8217;s very, very, very evident that every, not you know, fibromyalgia, is 25 different pain patterns, or you know, different things like that, every not tells a story. So my I&#8217;m here to try to empower you the listener, to listen to what that pain is telling you. Any I mean, upper trap tension is typically a blood sugar problem, tent pain and the weakness and weak, weakness on the side of the neck, blood sugar feeding yeast, and that&#8217;ll manifest as sacroiliac pain, or low back, you know, tailbone kind of pain. So all of those have it tell a story, and I made it my, my life&#8217;s mission to, you know, any you know, Scott points to somewhere, you know here, I know, okay, that&#8217;s a lung issue, oh, that&#8217;s a gallbladder issue, that&#8217;s an adrenal issue, and I can go right to it, and then then there&#8217;s specific food triggers or lifestyle issues that are going to cause that. </p>
<p>So my whole thing, my my MO at this point, my legacy is listen to your body. It&#8217;s trying to tell you a story and be your own advocate. To identify what that is. Quality of life goes up, you know, the quantity of years. But even more importantly, the quality of those years exponentially changes. I&#8217;ve often said the best practice management tool I could have would be a crystal ball, you know. You know, Scott, you quit eating, you know, sugar, sugar and grains. This is how you&#8217;re, you know, you&#8217;re going to look in feel in 80 years. You know, you quit eating, you keep eating your sugar and grains. This is how you&#8217;re going to look and feel if you make it another 30 years, you know. So I mean, that would be the best motivating tool we could have. But pain is, is kind of that crystal ball to help us understand, oops, these choices are compromising my health. So let&#8217;s learn from them. Let&#8217;s be our best advocate that&#8217;s going to inspire their doctors. You know, the listener, your doctor, is going to potentially shift their paradigm as they recognize you figuring these things out. Then they&#8217;re going to tell the next person you know, hey, just you know, Scott quit eating sugar, and his neck pain went away. What about you?</p>

<p>14:00 &#8211; My definition of success is being able to make change in our world. How do you do that? You gotta put yourself in a position of power. What&#8217;s a position of power? Yes, I&#8217;m a CEO of a company that right now has multiple locations, we are nationwide, it&#8217;s fantastic. That&#8217;s still not going to give me my definition of success. Ultimately, my goal is to be able to sit in a seat, in a legislative role, a political role, to be able to make some of these changes that have caused so many hiccups and a lot of difficulty for me to grow my own business. </p>
<p>29:35 – The topic on GLP-1, it&#8217;s a peptide. So it does have a tremendous amount of benefits, and the clinical research behind it is actually showing some positive data, even for myocardial health. </p>

<p>10:00 &#8211; Three different patients, three different treatment protocols, three different approaches to achieve the same issue, to get rid of breast cancer. That&#8217;s when for the first time it dawned on me that instead of looking at the disease and trying to kill the tumor or trying to destroy the cancer, we look at the patient and actually look at their circumstances. That&#8217;s when we started out to really make that big shift and put everything together. Since then, I&#8217;ve worked with the most outstanding doctors around the world who do functional medicine and we&#8217;ve put together a map. On our website, this map really shows all the different areas that we need to take. It starts really simple, like we&#8217;ve got health and gut health, which comes in so many different variations to graph too.</p>
<p>20:00 &#8211; That&#8217;s why if a patient comes in, they&#8217;re in a critical situation, if I add on top of their critical, stressful situation, then a complete shift to a different diet. It may help but it also may not so that&#8217;s why we are where we are in our approach, very scientific. You can just make blind recommendations, everybody does that today. All the internet is filled with blind recommendations though, it helps do this. Everybody tries out pretty much everything without considering their personal situation and that&#8217;s why functional medicine goes a lot back into that area.</p>
<p>30:00 &#8211; Let me just tell that one little story, if you go into a movie and you watch a movie, and there is an actor, and that actor gets into trouble, and then you stay with that actor and you wish for them, and you hope that they get through and then they overcome the problem and they come out at the end as the hero right? We love that in a movie! Well, if we look at our own life, do we love it? The same way if we get into trouble? Do we stand to our own character and say, well, we overcome the problem and we learn from it. We grow from it. No, we usually abandoned, we don&#8217;t want to be associated with any of it. We want to push that away and that&#8217;s something that I found as soon as we appreciate the problem. As soon as we embrace the problem and say, look, it is now part of my life and afterwards I&#8217;ll be stronger and more powerful, well, then that&#8217;s what we should do. Embrace the disease and not try to get rid of it.</p>
<p>40:00 &#8211; The magnetic field that builds up, that is what protects our Earth from outside influences from the universe, from the radiation. It holds us on the surface. It&#8217;s the magnetic field, and it&#8217;s in moments between zero and 60 hertz. It&#8217;s that natural rumbling of the earth and that is a frequency that we absorb. That makes our bones strong, that enlightens every cell, without EMF or without that magnetic field, we would not be able to survive. That&#8217;s what they recognized when they went to space and the astronauts were away from the earth field of the Earth, and their health was going down, their white blood cell count was going down there, the whole body disintegrated. They&#8217;re in a magnetic field that is increased in that ship to keep them healthy and they discovered benefits of pulsed electromagnetic fields. The static magnetic field doesn&#8217;t have that influence. It needs to be that motion, that movement that couldn&#8217;t see to enliven ourselves and that&#8217;s what we recreate with the device.</p>
<p>50:00 &#8211; Well, animals respond really well to PEMF, we do horses. There&#8217;s no Derby winner, no race horse in the world that has not received PEMF, you know they are. If you have a whole site worth a million dollars, you will pay $20,000 for a device without a problem. Every racehorse is treated with PEMF, for example, you can correct that gate. You know, if they run a little bit sideways, one side, you know not in line. They can treat that by counter balancing the other side like repair sacral area which is very effective.</p>

<p>10:00: I started rock climbing this year and I thought that was a good idea. I decided that that would be part of my getting older and mobility. I love it because I was doing CrossFit too.</p>
<p>20:00: So it&#8217;s just strategic looking when someone is doing dry needling. They&#8217;re going after the trigger point in the muscle. So they&#8217;re going to take that needle, and they&#8217;re going to go directly for the trigger point. It&#8217;s not an acupuncture point, let&#8217;s put it this way, some acupuncture points happen to be trigger points, but typically they&#8217;re not acupuncture points.</p>
<p>34:00: If you legit know something&#8217;s wrong and none of your tricks are working, I usually would say it&#8217;s time to go talk to somebody. It doesn&#8217;t matter how tough of a guy you are, I know, I fight with the firefighters too. I see this in my practice, I&#8217;m like, I don&#8217;t care. I&#8217;m not gonna make fun of you. You&#8217;ve got to pay attention to science because if you blow it off too long, it&#8217;s gonna be a big problem. That&#8217;s what I do, I try to save people from the big problems that come up.</p>
<p>40:00: The top of antibiotics can be sensitive. My sister in law is on a really hardcore antibiotic right now. I know most people go into the grocery store and are making the guessing game on their probiotics. You should take something while you&#8217;re on the antibiotic because you&#8217;re just thrashing your gut bacteria and that is ravaging that.</p>
<p>50:00: For folks listening out there, medical doctors can be functional medicine focused too. I think for a lot of people, we get a little confusion in terms of our medical doctors vs functional medicine doctors. Naturopaths can also be functional medicine doctors and actually, we can be both. It&#8217;s just additional education.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The two best things that I&#8217;d like to have folks hear and no matter whether they&#8217;re my patients or anyone listening to your podcast, or my podcasts, anyone out there in the world paying attention to the little things, little symptoms that show up that are nagging you day in, day out&#8230; Write them suckers down and pay attention a little bit to when they&#8217;re happening. Then either if you&#8217;re not comfortable with the MD, find a naturopath, find a functional medicine doc or naturopath and ask questions. Why am I having these symptoms, investigate it further? I&#8217;m a fan of Google doctoring.&nbsp;</p>

<li>[11:00] It’s definitely a lifestyle approach. The way I like to describe it to a lot of my clients is kind of like a pyramid. We all remember the old food pyramid where the bottom was bread and carbs and towards the top was maybe candy, but there were very little fats in there very little protein sources.</li>
<li>[20:00] Eating cholesterol does not raise your cholesterol. It goes back to the whole lifestyle picture. I eat whole eggs every single day for breakfast. I eat red meat, I eat a lot of foods that have cholesterol in it, but my cholesterol levels are very, very low. When we combine things like processed foods with processed sugars, and then lots of inflammatory fats like industrial seed oils, vegetable oils, all of those combined in one, those are really the enemies that we need to be aware of.</li>
<li>[31:00] I already was doing nutrition coaching. I was raised more on an athletic side, so I was helping with weight loss, I was helping with building muscle athletic performance. So I was already doing that. I’ve always enjoyed working with people and helping other people. But there’s something just different about helping other people improve their quality of life. Going from where they are, I’m miserable, I can’t eat anything and to be able to like eat something without feeling miserable after it. That just feels awesome to be able to help people to that extent. So I love helping people get six-pack abs and all that if that’s what they want to do. But just to truly be able to improve people’s quality of life, that’s a whole other level for me.</li>
<li>[42:00] A cow that’s fed grains is going to have much higher rates of omega-six fats compared to omega threes when a cow has been grass-fed. It’ll still have some omega sixes. It’s not going to have nearly the extent of a grain-fed cow. So omega sixes for people who don’t know, are pro-inflammatory fatty acids. Omega threes are anti-inflammatory. So we do need both in the body. But with typical Standard American Diet aka SAD Diet, we tend to get way more of the omega sixes that are pro-inflammatory. We are not getting enough of the omega threes that are anti-inflammatory. So we have a lot of people suffering from chronic inflammation and cholesterol issues. We are not saying that everybody needs to go outsource their cow. But they do need to pay attention, i.e. where’s your food coming from? Read the food labels, it blows my mind when people will just purchase “foods” and they did even look at what’s in the food that they’re eating.</li>
<li>[52:00] I can hand someone over the perfect nutrition plan and be like, if you follow this, you will get great results, you’ll be fit, you’ll feel great. But there’s often a lot more barriers than that. A lot of it goes back to mindset and motivation. Lack of confidence contributes to why can’t we follow it, it’s not always that black and white. I actually end up doing a lot more mindset counseling as well to in addition to the nutrition side of things under my Functional Medicine practices.</li>

<p>I would say kind of going back to a lot of the things we’ve talked about is just your health. Honestly, it is well if your health is the foundation for everything and not just the way you look. And it affects everything, it affects your business, it’s going to affect your relationships with your family, it’s going to affect your confidence. If you want to reach new levels of success, and you want to really be at the top of your game with your business with your life. You need to be looking at the Foundation, you need to be looking at our diet, or exercise or hydration levels. That’s going to transpose to all areas of your life. So I would encourage people to just start with the basics, looking at their lifestyle, and building that up and going from there. So building the self-discipline and also just knowing you are enough and knowing “<strong><em>you’re worth it”</em></strong><em> </em>too because I think a lot of people struggle with self-doubt, low confidence, and building up like what Andy Frisella even talks about a lot in his Podcast. Do the difficult things, the things you don’t want to do, do the things you say you’re going to do. Not only is it going to help you achieve your goals, but you’re going to build up a reputation with yourself and you’re going to be able to achieve the things that you want to. Build up that confidence!</p>

They&#8217;re desperate for help. I think that&#8217;s part of why maybe we have more rights and more autonomy. Iowa has allowed me to really build an integrative or functional medicine practice. There&#8217;s no guarantee that I could have found a true medical doctor who would have allowed me to practice under them this in this manner.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;14:00&#8243;] A fireman versus a carpenter approach, describes conventional, or you could say traditional medicine, as being more the fire department. The fire department is used to put out the fire. A chiropractor is then the carpenter approach to move forward with.</li>

That&#8217;s where what we do comes in, we&#8217;re a functional medicine provider, a contractor or Carpenter as I discussed in my book. We want to determine if the patient has inflammation and figure out those triggers. We want to help put out that fire without hopefully having to use drugs and surgery.</li>

I did utilize some of the&nbsp;conventional medicine but I use a lot of functional medicine to help with fertility. I&#8217;ve been gluten-free for I don&#8217;t even know how many years, five years maybe. I&#8217;m not free of all grains but I am 100% gluten-free and I needed to go dairy-free as well.</li>
<li>[spp-timestamp time=&#8221;35:00&#8243;] Terry Wahls is a good friend and colleague, her working knowledge base is ridiculous. She&#8217;s someone who reversed her autoimmune condition. She was wheelchair bound with MS &#8211; Multiple Sclerosis and was essentially sent home to die. So she did her own research, being she was conventionally trained, she sought out functional medicine and now she&#8217;s in the best shape of her life. She feels amazing.</li>

<p>I think we emphasized the importance of eating clean and reducing stress. Those are two awesome tips right there. So I think those are the biggest take homes.</p>
