That’s right, this is Scott’s 4th Men of Mindset event at his home casa! Tonight we featured manly guests discussing various aspects of life, business, and personal growth. Scott introduced the theme, emphasizing the importance of mindset. Nick shared his transition from corporate to entrepreneurship, highlighting the need for male connections. Rob discussed the challenges of balancing work and family, while Andre focused on leadership and personal development. Brian emphasized the importance of time management and delegation. Dave recounted his journey from fitness to construction, underscoring the value of mentorship. The conversation concluded with reflections on success, happiness, and the significance of personal values. The discussion centered on the concept of financial freedom and its impact on personal and professional life. Scott shared his journey from corporate life to Wildland Firefighting, emphasizing the importance of time, location, and financial freedom. He highlighted his charity, Fuel Foundations, which he donates 5% of his income to. This was inspired by the book “Profit First” and the Cole Hatter events “Thrive Make Money Matter”. Brian also shared a story of donating $500 to a fellow Hurricane Helene volunteer, which led to significant impacts in North Carolina. The conversations also touched on the importance of resilience, problem-solving, and the value of entrepreneurial mindsets in achieving success. They also welcomed a new face, a lifelong entrepreneur, Dave Intini, who joined in on the fun with brisket, cigars, and manly growth conversations.

Timestamped Show Notes:

34:00 – Well, the gamble becomes, given your tolerance for risk, given your personality, like you said, the gamble became pretty clear. For one, my former career was mental health. So I was 20 years as a mental health therapist, master’s degree, and making $45,000 a year. That’s poverty, that’s a crime. Even if you make $250-500,000 a year, it doesn’t matter like when you’re in corporate and you have a title that goes along with it, at some point, you’re signing your soul away for you to make that money, you’re gonna have to work more. You have to do all those things. But as an entrepreneur, you can make infinite money without always having to work harder.

40:10 – Let me full serve that real quick. One thing I love about this is like you’ve given me a lot of props over the years since I met you over running chainsaws, volunteering, building mountain biking trails, and hearing those horror stories and just me telling you, like, bro, start easy. Just start listening to podcasts. Get into the audiobooks, start geeking out. That was just some of the earlier shit we discussed. But technically, what I loved full circle tonight was what you just said a few minutes ago, before the word vomit, is the fact that actually Dave’s one of your earlier mentors, before you met me.

64:50 – I’m the same person, but because I have more financial freedom, I can fix most problems and help build most dreams, most of which are for other people that I care about. Therefore, that’s when I say money matters.

73:00 – I worked for one person my whole life, my dad. I moved on, I went on, I kept going. I saw my own thing, but that’s the family, but again, the lightest, most laid back guy here. He taught me everything.

82:00 – Final Words

Timestamped Show Notes:

08:30 – When it comes to our Lehigh Valley, PA region, there’s not enough personal and professional development here locally, like you said, I’ve traveled everywhere, California, Florida, Texas, we know social groups and masterminds.

10:20 – I’ll tell you , it always surprised me when I speak at more local events and not the big stages. Like you said, traveling all over the country, no matter where you’re doing it, no matter if it’s New York City, or if it’s going to be here in the Lehigh Valley, wherever it is. So many people are hungry for it. I believe that everybody knows the truth deep inside, but either busy has beat them, or life has beat them down, or they’re on autopilot doing things. But when we hear the truth, we all stop for a second, we all pause.

22:00 – It changes the intent and how you see things, I promise you, and you’re talking to a guy who is a convicted felon, I did four years in the Feds, a high school dropout, I was a drug addict on every single level. I’ve done every single drug known to man, I had zero discipline, I had a mindset where I did whatever the fuck I wanted. I didn’t care who I hurt, I didn’t care what I did. There was zero discipline. Now, in this evolution, for people to understand where real personal growth comes from, with your family, with your relationships, with your finances, with your health, with everything… it’s discipline!

29:15 – Brother when I came in here, I put my phone over on the table. You know what I mean? It’s because it’s that thing, that mobile tech, you got to be disciplined to not look at it. Discipline is everything. Like I can’t say it enough and I can’t talk about it enough, DISCIPLINE.

39:25 – What you mentioned too, was intentional evaluation process. As we get older, many people stop evaluating themselves. I mean, you work in a job, you’re gonna have an annual review. But those numbers are already circled. How about we get to circle our own numbers and be intentional. So once a month I call it get my life together Saturday. I sit down with a cup of coffee, a cigar, and maybe really nice drink. Then I put down the different roles that I play as a versus overall as me, Andre, but also as a husband, as a father, I have four kids, believe me, I’ll have four different ratings. Okay, as a leader, and you could go whatever role that you value, put it down on a scale of one to ten. My rating is on a scale of one to ten.

45:00 – So I think one of the challenges of being a coach is we try to coach at home, and they don’t need a coach, like I experienced this with my daughter, Wes knows my kids. This is what I have on my phone at 9:15, and it says discipline equals freedom. Make a list for tomorrow goes off every night at nine o’clock. So like, this is where discipline comes into play. The gift in the curse with what we do, we coach people, we give people direction, we tell them what they need. Then we go home…

53:30 – DALE: Yeah, they need to be present, just like we were talking about be present where you are present. Like I to have quite a few friends who just had the most amazing dads. Like there’s nothing more important to them than their family and their kids. Not just that they’re proactively raising their children and teaching them. Here’s what it means to be an entrepreneur at 10, 11, 12. If you do this, I’ll give you a reward. So they understand reward systems, they understand then once they start doing those things, they get a reward, but how good they feel on the other side is a huge reward in itself too. So they’re just teaching them all these different things in life that I learned, but I didn’t necessarily learn from one person.

59:00 – One in 400 trillion or it’s 400 trillion to one. Each of us, you yourself are that one in 400 trillion chance to come into existence. When I heard that statistic, I immediately was woken up, just think about that. Just the thought of that is happening, why do you exist on this earth, why are you walking around. Each of us are a 400 trillion to one chance of creation. That’s it. When you think about that, it’s like each of us won the lottery of life. So you know how special you are right now?!

01:07:00 – I’m a man of faith, I don’t hide that. I think it’s very important, not so much being religious, but I’m spiritual. I heard the voice of God and he said, Wes, I’m all the father that you’ll ever need. I’m all the father that you’ll ever need, bro. When you put expectations on human beings, they will let you down a lot. So he said, I’m all the man that you’ll ever need. Just FYI, we’re setting a fucking date for this Men Of Mindset night again bros. I’m coming back!

01:13:00 – I mean, I think that’s part of growth, though. The theme of tonight was Men and Mindset, right? Mindset is just the key word. This event them just popped in my head, so I was just like, I’m just gonna stick it on the calendar invite and I’m still gonna stick by it. I’m feeling it.

01:27:00 – The Final, Final, Final Words

Timestamped Show Notes:

07:00 – We love being distinct. We don’t do what most coaching companies or training companies do most of, that shits boring and useless, as well. Wat they do is usually provide formulas that gesture at results. We don’t mess around. We drive with three very distinct conversations. One is we do care about results. That’s what people are paying for, something new that’s happening that wasn’t happening before. So we get really clear on that and how do we do that? Well, leadership, if we could talk about what leadership is for a long time, but at least we know, leadership is getting results through other people.

23:00 – In our work, we call it vital competencies. This is where life is like the connection between two humans, that’s where life is, period. I mean, we can have a transaction, but we’re not gonna have a future together, that is, unless we like each other. We get some vested interest, and we get shared interest together. Actually, you know what, I’d really trust Scott, I get this guy, even if we want different things, and I get you. We might be on the other side of the table, but it’s like, Man, I get this dude. He’s a real deal. Now that’s vital. That’s like truth telling and that’s really listening. That’s the presence and all of the things that you naturally show up as

30:00 – When I first got into coaching, I would hope nobody would ask, how how’d you get into this? Because I wasn’t an Accenture guy, I wasn’t an IBM guy, I wasn’t a Google guy. There’s a natural thing here, I’ve been spending years doing a bunch of crazy weird shit, from being an ICU nurse at the bedside, when trying to keep a kid alive, to running a multi-million dollar Foundation, to working mostly to doing leadership training with murderers to taking teams to go overseas.

40:00 – It’s honoring our convictions as much as our emotions most, the imposter syndrome was really my feelings about what’s happening matter more to me than my capacity. I speak on lots of big stages these days, I sit in rooms, wave, and have conversations that have lots of dollar signs in the backend. Am I scared? Yes, I am. I am intimidated. I am insecure, I know all of that shits happening. When I’m on the airplane flying across the country being paid good money to do X, all of my shit is coming up. I’m not surprised that it comes up for me. It’s just a part of it.

46:55 – Final Words

Our Final Words of the Show:

I love that we talked about legacy a ton. I think about this, especially as a dad, that’s mostly where I think about being a legacy. We got four kids between me and my wife and I think about this a bunch. So my legacy is always go be all in and be all here. That’s what I think about, my commitment level, I’ll just compete with anybody with my commitment level. You know, we’ll see results wise, but you can’t outwork me. You can’t out present me, you can’t outwork me, let’s just go, I’m gonna be all in. I love competition. I love finding the edge for myself. I love all of that. At the same moment, I want to be all here, I’ll be present for it. So to being present, especially with my young kids, talking about the deep complexities of life, I do XYZ.

Now things seem to come easier for me now, blah, blah, blah. But it’s not always been like that. Nor will it always be like that. So I like really sharing the struggle in life. That is as a part of it, and there’s joy in that, like, if you struggle well, like aiming at some meaning, struggle will come up actually faster than if you’re not aiming at anything. If I aim at something, difficulties will come faster, that’s the hard. All of my insecurities, they’re not going away. They’re gonna be here at some level, they’re gonna be here, so I want to talk about those. Talk of them, even with my nine year old. When we’re out on the golf course I just say, hey, how am I doing as a dad? My dad never asked me that question. My dad’s a lovely guy. I don’t think you ever know how am I doing as a dad and I don’t want that answer. You know, a part of me is like, oh, shit, what might he say?

Our Theme with Today’s LIVE Guest Co-Host, Jeremy Motivates:

Jeremy Vermeulen is a husband, father, youth basketball coach, motivational speaker and author. His talks focus on the topics of happiness, overcoming adversity, believing in yourself, positivity and leadership.

He has always been someone who has found joy in helping people realize that life is so much more than what is right in front of them. In the winter of 2012, Jeremy jumped at the opportunity to volunteer as a youth basketball coach for a non-profit organization and live out a lifelong dream of coaching. This is where his passion to help others really started to shine. Then, in 2015 after overcoming a one and a half year battle with depression Jeremy’s passion became a burning desire fueled by a single notion that “If you believe it, you can achieve it!” Since then his mission has been to take his message from the basketball court and share it with the masses.

Jeremy’s belief that personal growth and development a long with hard work can help you achieve the life you desire; it is what drives him to continuously learn new methods and techniques that can be used to enhance not only his life but also the lives of others as well.

On This Episode You Will Hear:

[spp-timestamp time=”00:30″] Introduction

[spp-timestamp time=”04:14″] Independent youth facilities and organizations, basketball seasons, reinforcing all these positive things. Reinforce that if you make a mistake, it’s all right, you’re going to make a mistake. But get back up, get back with the team, keep doing what you’re doing.

[spp-timestamp time=”08:26″] I don’t let any kid ever feel like they are the weak link, I identify which kids are strong and what skills, etc. Some kids maybe have two to three good skills.

[spp-timestamp time=”11:27″] Most of my speaking when I go out to youth organizations, or even mental health facilities, like outpatient mental health facilities, I’m telling them about my story. I’m telling them how I fought back against those things.

[spp-timestamp time=”14:35″] Embrace your fears.

[spp-timestamp time=”16:50″] Initially, I’d hit a pause. Life will get in the way, you know, family things, whatever it may be.

[spp-timestamp time=”19:22″] Setting a definitive ultimate goal. At the end of the year, you gotta have it completed. Draw a hard line in the sand.

[spp-timestamp time=”24:08″] I look at life as a journey. We all have one. We’re all living that journey every day. Mine was trying to find happiness through some of the adversity that I had faced.

[spp-timestamp time=”28:25″] There is nothing that I wouldn’t do for my kids. There’s nothing that I wouldn’t sacrifice for them. There are sacrifices I’m making in my life, to give them a better life, not to say that I had a bad life, but something different than I had.

[spp-timestamp time=”33:00″] How can I take care of my kids if I’m mentally drained.

[spp-timestamp time=”38:18″] That was kind of the start of a weird, very weird journey and childhood.

[spp-timestamp time=”40:09″] So in the fairy tale world, she, my mother was the evil queen. My brother was the horrible step brother.

[spp-timestamp time=”41:49″] I got depressed. I hit a depression wall.

[spp-timestamp time=”44:50″] Doing some personal development and self-education.

[spp-timestamp time=”47:55″] You try and deal with the stress. But you forget about the emotional portion. That’s really what broke me because you have two choices. I feel you have two choices. When it comes to stress and emotions. You can either address them and deal with them, or you can let them build up and you’ll break.

[spp-timestamp time=”51:00″] Two years to get past the change the shame component.

[spp-timestamp time=”52:56″] Putting in the reps, you had to start putting in the healing reps.

[spp-timestamp time=”56:32″] Jim Rohn left a lot huge footprint in the world. Yeah, and then I found Eric Thomas.

[spp-timestamp time=”01:04:05″] Final Words

“If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.” – Quote Jim Rohn

Leadership builds success. The best investment in life is you. That’s right, you. It’s the one thing that gets neglected in life the most. It’s not a selfish act. Unhappy with his 9-5 career aka job, David decided to free himself and start working to help assist other millennial’s and entrepreneurial minded people. This episodes co-host is a fellow Thrive: Make Money Matter attendee. David Byler first attended the Thrive event back in 2015 and roomed with me at this year’s 2016 event. He took the plunge after investing in Tai Lopez’s 67 Steps course. After this event, he saw the importance of continuing to be learning and investing in yourself. This investment has led David to create the brand SuccessByLeadership.com.

On This Episode You Will Hear:

[spp-timestamp time=”06:28″] Thrive 2015 was Davids first event ever and it changed his life forever

[spp-timestamp time=”09:09″] The 67 Steps to forming a habit and Opening the doors to knowledge

[spp-timestamp time=”11:04 “] The reason for David going to Thrive was about seeing success in the flesh. Growing up in a small town in West Virginia, money was always seen as a bad thing.

[spp-timestamp time=”13:00″] You need an emotional trigger to help get over the fear of failure to ultimately take action.

[spp-timestamp time=”14:43″] What inspired David to start SuccessByLeadership.com. For David, it started with a lot of unhappiness.

[spp-timestamp time=”16:41″] Before investing in Tai Lopez’s course, David had never made that sort investment before. He always followed the course that people around him followed.

[spp-timestamp time=”19:49″] The Quarter Life Crisis

[spp-timestamp time=”21:29″] David has always liked finance and has been a natural saver. Watching people he managed, mismanage their own money and watching their lives spiral out of control drove him nuts.

[spp-timestamp time=”25:43″] Practices from the book, Profit First

[spp-timestamp time=”28:12″] Being efficient and effective with your money by dividing money into multiple accounts

[spp-timestamp time=”29:23″] Most people don’t control their money, so making more money won’t solve the issue

[spp-timestamp time=”30:40″] If you don’t like what you have, you have got to start thinking about what else can you do. Then you can start taking small steps. It’s not going to happen overnight.

[spp-timestamp time=”34:43″] If you want to build your freedom, make sure you build a successful team behind you.

[spp-timestamp time=”36:08″] David helps businesses with their production needs and helps people with their finances allowing them to build the life of freedom they want.

[spp-timestamp time=”37:48″] The freedom trifecta – Financial Freedom, Location Freedom, and Time Freedom

[spp-timestamp time=”40:31″] You got to get to at least one event every year. You must go invest in yourself.

[spp-timestamp time=”46:43″] It’s not always about entrepreneurship. It is about providing value. Don’t just go to events in your industry

[spp-timestamp time=”50:20″] If you want to be a millionaire, make two million so you can give a million away.

[spp-timestamp time=”51:41″] Control and constraints to allow freedom in your life

[spp-timestamp time=”54:21″] Final Words
