Why wait? There is always going to be an excuse if you just don’t start. First give yourself permission to start, then have a clear vision, add accountability and reflection to that and you you will move quickly along your journey to that vision. Today’s Co-Host has applied this to his podcast and to his latest book which will be released late March’17. Tommy Baker of Tommy Baker Fitness.com and Resist Average Academy.com is a fellow Thrive16′ attendee and fitness buff. Using his platforms that he has built, he inspires and motivates people with fitness to act as catalyst for massive transformation in other areas of life.

On This Episode You Will Hear:

[spp-timestamp time=”01:20″] Tommy’s first true passion in life was fitness. It was his first foray into personal development. He wanted to use fitness as a tool to learn more about himself. As Tommy evolved his fitness brand and his two retail gyms, he started to broadcast the message, fitness was just the starting point and can be a catalyst for mass transformation in other areas of life. Half of his audience got the message the other half was just there for fitness, so now Tommy is separating the two apart and relaunching.

[spp-timestamp time=”04:40″] Tommy has a book coming out late March.

[spp-timestamp time=”05:49″] Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic Learning Styles (VAK). Tommy in 2015, had read through 55 books. Once he got to 35 books he was not effectively digesting and implementing what he had read. He was just in consumption mode. He has since shifted his focus to only reading 15 to 20 books a year, reading the physical book and listening to the audio book version. Tommy had chosen to not move on until he had implemented something from each book into his life or business. This is what Tommy calls 365 degree learning. Going deeper, instead of wider.

[spp-timestamp time=”10:21″] Document the moments that make you pause.

[spp-timestamp time=”14:08″] Using voice notes on Evernote as a journal.

[spp-timestamp time=”16:22″] The power of Accountability Partners.

[spp-timestamp time=”18:49″] Give yourself permission to say yes to yourself to make the commitment. Once you have done that, things just start happening and you will figure the rest of the stuff out along the way. The inspiration and the passion that you are looking for are always on the other side of action.

[spp-timestamp time=”21:20″] When Tommy started his Resist Average podcast, he went back and listened to the very first episodes of some of the current best podcasters. He came to the realization that they really were not that good. It immediately took the pressure off him, knowing where those top podcasters are now. He took a deep breath and said, “They started somewhere look at where they are now, I have just got to get started!”

[spp-timestamp time=”22:41″] We all start somewhere. The most important thing is taking action.

[spp-timestamp time=”23:34″] There are countless resources of accountability. A fan of Tommy’s, unknowingly, kept him accountable throughout the writing of the book.

[spp-timestamp time=”25:37″] Using vision boards. Vision boards are environmental triggers. It’s great to have big visions but you also have to keep in mind, what can you do today to take you a little closer to that goal.

[spp-timestamp time=”29:07″] Go to the places that you love and that inspire you. For Tommy it is being outside. The more you can sprinkle these into your week the more on fire you will feel.

[spp-timestamp time=”38:03″] Tommy got into CrossFit in 2007. It’s all about trying new things and experiences. Scott in 2010 thanks to Wildland Firefighting.

[spp-timestamp time=”40:02″] Constantly variable.

[spp-timestamp time=”43:35″] You have to find out what works, pace it and don’t be afraid to change it up.

[spp-timestamp time=”46:49″] Being objective with our goals. Having self awareness is huge but it is difficult to have it on your own. It is important to surround yourself with people that will ask great questions, hold you accountable and give you the power of perspective.

[spp-timestamp time=”49:38″] We no longer allow ourselves to be bored. At a moments lull we pull out our phones. Take moments throughout your day to just think. Reflection is as important to Tommy as action because if we are taking action but don’t take the time to reflect we could go in the wrong direction. Reflection gives us time to pivot and adjust. Tommy does daily reflection, Sunday reflection and quarterly reflection exercises to allow himself to see where he is at.

[spp-timestamp time=”51:06″] Final Words

Final Words

If you can see your path laid out in front of you step by step you know it is not your path. We each have finger print specific journeys that no one else will have again. Embrace your uniqueness and understand the journey, the process, the daily effort of overcoming resistance. Also the struggles, the challenges, all of the opportunities and everything in between that is the win. So many times we are waiting to feel a certain way until we have achieved something.

Embrace where you are in the journey.

This episode is a referral from Mike Michalowicz author of the Profit First book refers us one of his earlier adopters of the system. Shannon Simmons is one of the earliest Profit First Professionals and is here to help save gyms, fitness professionals and more.

On This Episode You Will Hear:

[spp-timestamp time=”01:54″] How Shannon stumbled across helping Gym and Fitness centers with their accounting as a niche.

[spp-timestamp time=”04:27″] How Shannon made the transition into this niche.

[spp-timestamp time=”06:31″] Shannon was one of the first members of the P.F. Professionals. She had been doing Virtual Bookkeeping for ten years before the book came out. There were so many Entrepreneurs she wanted to help but with all the accounting jargon she knew Entrepreneurs would not relate. That is the biggest thing she likes about the system, is it was written by an Entrepreneur for an Entrepreneur, so they can relate.

[spp-timestamp time=”09:03″] You have to face reality and know where your business is, compared to where a healthy business is.

[spp-timestamp time=”11:24″] Mike recommends having at least five basic accounts, Shannon has identified three others for the fitness industry. This system works for personal life as well. Shannon uses an example of someone repaying $100,000 of debt off in 18 months by using this in their personal life.

[spp-timestamp time=”16:26″] Shannon recommends all Gym owners have an Equipment Account, even if you allocate a small amount to that account each month, it will compound by the end of the year so it can be used on new equipment.

[spp-timestamp time=”21:16″] This system is a proactive way to look at your finances.

[spp-timestamp time=”28:28″] Shannon recommends you should focus on creating the five accounts right from the beginning

[spp-timestamp time=”31:44″] There are three extra accounts Shannon has found that the fitness industry should have, one of them is the Equipment/Capital Expenses Account,

[spp-timestamp time=”33:06″] The point of Profit First is to get people to finally enjoy running their businesses, even if they are only paying themselves 2% profit, you are paying that right away. You don’t distribute your profits from the profit account until the end of each quarter. Profit First Professionals call it the “Quarterly Profit Distribution”.

[spp-timestamp time=”35:25″] You don’t take money from your Profit account and put it back into your business. Your profit is there for you to enjoy your hard work, even if it is only 1-2%, especially for gyms!

[spp-timestamp time=”37:26″] The more money we have, the more money we spend.

[spp-timestamp time=”39:37″] There are people out there that have a decent handle on their finances but are missing the enjoyment piece. Living with the income instead of living ahead of the income.

[spp-timestamp time=”44:00″] Who is your best employee? The answer is YOU! You have to compensate yourself.

[spp-timestamp time=”46:51″] Final Words
