That’s right, this is Scott’s 4th Men of Mindset event at his home casa! Tonight we featured manly guests discussing various aspects of life, business, and personal growth. Scott introduced the theme, emphasizing the importance of mindset. Nick shared his transition from corporate to entrepreneurship, highlighting the need for male connections. Rob discussed the challenges of balancing work and family, while Andre focused on leadership and personal development. Brian emphasized the importance of time management and delegation. Dave recounted his journey from fitness to construction, underscoring the value of mentorship. The conversation concluded with reflections on success, happiness, and the significance of personal values. The discussion centered on the concept of financial freedom and its impact on personal and professional life. Scott shared his journey from corporate life to Wildland Firefighting, emphasizing the importance of time, location, and financial freedom. He highlighted his charity, Fuel Foundations, which he donates 5% of his income to. This was inspired by the book “Profit First” and the Cole Hatter events “Thrive Make Money Matter”. Brian also shared a story of donating $500 to a fellow Hurricane Helene volunteer, which led to significant impacts in North Carolina. The conversations also touched on the importance of resilience, problem-solving, and the value of entrepreneurial mindsets in achieving success. They also welcomed a new face, a lifelong entrepreneur, Dave Intini, who joined in on the fun with brisket, cigars, and manly growth conversations.

Timestamped Show Notes:

34:00 – Well, the gamble becomes, given your tolerance for risk, given your personality, like you said, the gamble became pretty clear. For one, my former career was mental health. So I was 20 years as a mental health therapist, master’s degree, and making $45,000 a year. That’s poverty, that’s a crime. Even if you make $250-500,000 a year, it doesn’t matter like when you’re in corporate and you have a title that goes along with it, at some point, you’re signing your soul away for you to make that money, you’re gonna have to work more. You have to do all those things. But as an entrepreneur, you can make infinite money without always having to work harder.

40:10 – Let me full serve that real quick. One thing I love about this is like you’ve given me a lot of props over the years since I met you over running chainsaws, volunteering, building mountain biking trails, and hearing those horror stories and just me telling you, like, bro, start easy. Just start listening to podcasts. Get into the audiobooks, start geeking out. That was just some of the earlier shit we discussed. But technically, what I loved full circle tonight was what you just said a few minutes ago, before the word vomit, is the fact that actually Dave’s one of your earlier mentors, before you met me.

64:50 – I’m the same person, but because I have more financial freedom, I can fix most problems and help build most dreams, most of which are for other people that I care about. Therefore, that’s when I say money matters.

73:00 – I worked for one person my whole life, my dad. I moved on, I went on, I kept going. I saw my own thing, but that’s the family, but again, the lightest, most laid back guy here. He taught me everything.

82:00 – Final Words

Timestamped Show Notes:

06:50 – METAL.MEN is who we are, that’s the website. That’s what we are. We’re a men’s group of inspiration, adventure, brotherhood, so let’s dig in on our interesting group of guys.

24:35 – In the METAL MEN group, guys come to us often looking for help with something they’re looking for help with. You know, career advice, or you’ve hit a plateau in what you’re doing, or you want to find out what next. You are just looking for something, right? But guys that stick around stay for the Brotherhood. That is what you’re talking about, the human connection. Being in a space where meeting guys who are very similar to the way you look at things, but from many different backgrounds.

44:00 – I don’t ride motorcycles anymore, the one in 600 but this is actually a specific thing. This is about commuting to work as you get in a sort of ongoing route that you get used to, and you start relaxing, which you should never do, do not become complacent, right? If there was an accident and you survive, the odds are you are going to ride a different way afterwards. How are you going to manage that risk? Sometimes you just have to accept there is a risk, and it’s part of life, right? The fifth thing that we have out of the eight is our BROTHERHOOD. Successful MEN need other successful men. We come from a community and metal of heart centeredness. METAL is completely independent. We are not affiliated with any publishing, religious, political, etc. We are an independent community.

1:05:40 – The answer to that is actually brotherhood and community. It’s about connecting with guys who’ve been very successful or are on the way to being very successful, who can then lean in and just be with you because they’re in the same place. Choosing conscious Brotherhood is different than just meeting guys when you’re out in the world. If you’ve got kids, you meet the friends, you meet your kids, friends, and fathers. What do you have in common? Likely not very much, but you’ve got your kids in common, and so you’ll end up in this kind of hinterland of having these men, male relationships around you. You don’t really have anything in common, and you couldn’t really say, well, you know, I’m in a really dark depression because my dream came true six weeks ago.

01:20:59 – Final Words

Our Final Words of the Show:

I think I can sum up what you’re talking about in terms of sort of a personal development frame, which is you, you seem to be a perfect example of a guy who knows himself more. Now, when you were a kid, you didn’t know yourself then, and there are lessons that you go through to know yourself better. The secret to happiness in your late 40s, early 50s and onwards is knowing yourself, and it’s finding your purpose and understanding where your weaknesses are. Impulse control, if you come from a family where you have addiction in the family, just be aware that may well be integrated into your DNA and in a way that you could fall off that wagon pretty quick. Just be conscious of it, that is a thing. Know yourself.

Our Final Words of the Show at 52 minutes:

My guiding principle in life is I don’t get to choose when I die. But I sure get to choose how I live. If you just check in with yourself every day, ask yourself, am I choosing how I want to live? If you make little adjustments towards that, more and more, you’re gonna be happier and more authentic and just be shining as who you’re supposed to be.

Timestamped Show Notes:

05:20 – The funny thing is, when they came in the house that day, my wife and I, we still joke about it to this day… You have to find a way to look at it, that’s exactly what the first couple of years of this was like. It was hard, but you kind of you relax with it. We joked around because neither one of us knew what was going on. I looked at it, I thought, was she cheating on me with somebody? Is she in the mafia, something that I don’t know about? Is she living a double life? All these weird thoughts. Then she’s looking at me going, are you looking at weird stuff on the internet? I mean, just all these thoughts, because you have no idea nowadays, and then, why are these people in our house?!

10:45 – We had to end up selling our home, we had to end up dealing with all kinds of different issues that weren’t documented. So I’m doing the best I can based on what I believe they wanted. Well, there were other family members who disagreed. So that became a big point of of problem.

20:00 – The number one thing is, anybody involved, and I mean anybody, step relatives, uncles, aunts, brothers cousins, friends down the street, they should all be involved in all the decisions for clear communication. Either in writing, in a group meeting, etc, so that there’s witnesses that can say, yeah, I saw that all 10 of us agreed with what were doing. I mean, other than what you said, the wills and signed agreements and all that stuff. The other thing too, is just don’t pay yourself to take care of your your relatives. I mean, there’s a lot of different philosophies on that.

31:50 – We had to have two different attorneys. You can’t have one attorney represent you. So you have to have two separate attorneys. It just became this odyssey, I felt like every day I was getting up and having an out of body experience because it was so not my life of crime. Up to this point, I only had some speeding tickets. I had an open container when I was like 19 years old in college. That was it. So here, I was caught in this thing. Thank God she, I mean, she’s just an angel. To this day, she’s it, she has incredible friends. She’s an incredible person. Thank God because if she wasn’t, she would have left me in a heartbeat.

40:50 – I think it was smart move. I don’t have a legal background. I’m not here to say whether you are guilty or innocent. I love the fact that you’re honest. You say, we definitely screwed up, and we definitely didn’t do some things that were within the legal process, that’s why we got nailed. Then you stepped up and you owned it because you want to protect your family and not get drug through a massive trial of hell.

50:00 – Assisted living doesn’t stay easy, even when we put them both in assisted living. It just made a lot of our challenges even worse, because you still have to get them to doctors, you still have to make sure their fed, they have clothes. I mean, people think well, we just put them away. You got to pay for it. You got to be involved in all of it or find somebody or pay somebody to be involved in it.

54:20 – Final Words

Our Final Words of the Show:

If I narrowed it down to three key points… Number one would be gratitude. It’s important to have that, no matter what’s going on in your life, find the good things to focus on the good things. If you focus on the negative and the bad, that’s what grows. I mean, we hear that all the time on every book and self-development podcast. It’s probably cliche, but here’s the reality. It probably saved my life, just finding that gratitude.

Second thing and this is what I teach my kids all the time, is you can come back from anything. Truly anything, if I could survive this, and again, there’s people who’ve been through way worse than me. I mean, God forbid you lose a child or there’s just things that are way worse than what I went through. But the reality is if you can come back from whatever it is, if you just keep working, you can come back. But that’s what I tell my kids all the time.

I think the third thing is, it may be around the word, or the feeling of authenticity and love. Being yourself. I think I was pretending to be somebody. I mean, there were bits and pieces of me that were me. But I was losing. One of my friends said, you know, back in that day, you were so buttoned up. I was like, what do you mean buttoned up? He said, it was like, we didn’t get to see the real you. We didn’t get to talk to the real you. Even now, it’s hard for me. I mean, it’s hard for me to say I’m a convicted felon, that it’s like I just said, but it’s the reality and it’s me, and it’s okay. I’m okay, because I’m still a good person. I’m still living a great life.
