Robbins is the right guy in this show because he can help you understand why therapeutic exercise along with functional training are the cornerstones of good health and lifestyle. All while showing us the trials and tribulations of starting up a business.

Physical therapists examine their clients and develop an actionable plan of care that restores function, promotes movement, reduces pain and prevents disability. They work with a patient, family members, and other healthcare providers to make sure goals of the plan of care are carried out, and the patient outcomes are optimal. Part of their work is to ensure that there is balance in health, business, and lifestyle.

As it always, this is a great entertaining conversation show packed with great ideas and content that you can translate into your life, in order to FUEL your internal fire. Tune in and enjoy your dose of LIVETHEFUEL.

Today’s Physical Therapy Co-host

Travis Robbins is the co-owner of Robbins Rehabilitation and the proud father of four children Macy, Harrison and Cade, Delaney. He was born in Upstate New York and grew up milking cows on his parent’s dairy milking farm. Just like other children growing up in American ‘not affluent’ neighborhoods, Travis participated in sports like baseball, basketball, and football.

Travis holds Master of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from Ithaca College. He developed the passion of pursuing further studies in physical therapy after a lot of injuries while basketball, football and playing baseball in high school and university.

In 2003, he left his position as a clinical director of a large corporate physical therapy center to start Robbins Rehabilitation. This center is based in Allentown, Pennsylvania and has highly trained and experienced physical therapists. However, they have also opened other offices, now totaling five different locations, all committed to the word “better”. They have better therapists who guarantee better results. All of this means that their clients have a better experience.

In this episode you’ll hear:

[01:02] When did they start Robbins Rehabilitation? The struggles that Travis has encountered and where the motivation came from. How he manages to move forward despite many challenges.

[10:14] It is not a lack of resources but the lack of resourcefulness, and this is what makes many people get stuck or want to quit in what they do.

[12:02] Why an employee’s mentality is dangerous? How you break this mold.

[18:02] Getting recommendations by your medical practitioner; is it legal?

[22:19] The power of freedom of thought and decision. How Travis and his team are getting that message out there in their marketing. How do they get clients despite the strong competition out there?

[27:02] What do the physical therapists and PTA’s do. How can you become one of them or what qualifications are needed?

[34:14] The importance of scalability in business building.

[37:00] What Travis and his team are doing differently that sets them above their competitors.

[41:11] No matter what industry you are in or whatever you are doing right now, look at what other industries are doing and get the motivation and experiences from them.

And Much Much More

Travis started Robbins Rehabilitation together with his twin brother, Todd Robbins, in 2003. They had some money saved up, which they used to open a small center in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He got the motivation and the financial support from his wife. In fact, Travis reveals that through everything that he has done or screwed up, his wife has always been there for him.

You have to put part of yourself (not your entire self) into anything you are doing to achieve success. When you run into obstacles, if you are still around, you have to find a way around it. You have to become more resourceful.

Travis and I also discussed a little bit about employee’s mentality vs an entrepreneur’s mentality. People are always going to direct you to do what they’re doing right. They will always discourage you from doing what your heart desires. They will tell you that you can’t manage or succeed. You need to break the mold. I mean people who get out, can create change and new beginnings.

We also touched a little bit about the freedom of thought and decision nowadays, which I think too many people are afraid of. There are several physical therapists and physical therapy businesses out there, the competition for clients or patients in this sense, is very high. Travis revealed that they go after the 93 % of patients who don’t get a prescription from their medical practitioners, and use various marketing strategies to reach them.

Another thing that we discussed in this episode is scalability. If you want to build something that is successful, you have got to figure out your system. And part of the system has to be scalability. So if you are interested in that, then read The E-Myth by Michael Gerber.

Finally, I have a small request

Since this is my brand new show, I’ve got zero clout in the world right now. It takes a lot of work to bring something like this to fruition. Currently, my biggest asset is reviews and ratings on iTunes. When iTunes sees that this show is getting good reviews and ratings, it moves us up in importance to the “New & Noteworthy” section. A brand new show can get lots of traction from this!

So, if you wouldn’t mind, I will welcome positive reviews and ratings from you guys, love the 5 stars! Also, if you think it’s valuable; kindly share this page on Facebook or Twitter. It would mean a ton of gratitude to me as well.

If you want to be part of the growing community, please join the The FUEL Tank group on Facebook where we Fuel Your Health, Business and Lifestyle as a community.

And Much, Much More

I ran into Chris a few months ago now. We are both are in the CrossFit world, and he came up for an Olympic Weightlifting competition at our facility in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. At our first meeting he had only just started his focus on getting strong through weightlifting in the past 7 months. Chris is still into Olympic Weightlifting training six days a week.
Chris explains that CMDS is a creative marketing agency. The company’s clients range from a smaller $10 million dollar kind of entities up to a Fortune 500 company. He helps them establish a presence in their marketplace from helping them determine the voices for their brand. They’ll also help them define the vision of their company by building out the creative piece and the identity of that company.

Thanks to doubling their income success in 2015 they’ve achieved the Inc 5000 award! Inc. magazine ranked CMDS, a leading NJ full service marketing and web design agency. They are weighing in at number 1989 on its 35th annual Inc. 5000. This is an exclusive ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies. The list represents the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy: America’s independent entrepreneurs. Companies such as Yelp, Pandora, Dell, LinkedIn, Zillow and many others gained early exposure as members of the Inc. 5000.

Chris reveals that they work from Monday through Thursday from 8 to 6. So what does this mean? This is kind of cool because they are starting to see a few more companies that do that nowadays too. Smart CEO’s take on this supposedly risky expense by investing in ensuring their employees have better vacations and life balance. Chris is always trying to find ways to make his team strong and moree productive. This is the exact reason they officially have only four days required in the office.

Giving his employees three days off in a week; is it a lifestyle goal? He replies, a definite YES. Chris says that he is trying to figure out how his companies can attract and retain employees for life. He is looking for ways to keep employees happy. He says that clients can come and go over a few year period, but top talent employees are tough to find. So it’s important to build ways to retain their value.

We also discussed the importance of accountability. One thing you have to keep in mind is a quote I learned years ago: “We are personally and collectively accountable for our results.” It’s important to be personally responsible for what you’re doing but also think about it from a collective capacity for the greater good of the company.

Chris continued to reveal more about the strong CMDS business lifestyle. He says they’ve paid to have chiropractors on site in the past and they are planning to bring in a yoga instructor to give his teams more healthy options. This is a great practice to consider whether it be for the physical and/or the mental benefits. This will definitely FUEL their health, business and lifestyle success!

We talked about the importance of networking to ensure long term growth through connectivity. This goes for personal or professional network growth. You never know what’s going to happen down the road in your life or business for that matter. Keeping in mind that we truly are the product of the five people we spend the most time with. If you want to grow, you must be ready to increase your network and your circle of influence.

We also discussed the value of taking risks in whatever you do in life. If you are not willing to take risks, you are missing out on the powerful learning’s that come from failure. Failure leads to eventual succeed. You didn’t just start walking from child birth. Each of us crawled and failed at walking a few times along the way. Now who is the strong one?!

So no home studio for this episode, we’re mobile! We are live and onsite with Steve Boerner and David Gritz in their Hatch House Ventures, Bethlehem, PA location. So yes, not one, but two co-hosts for this episode. To my right and next to me is Steve Boerner and to his right is David Gritz.

We review different successful morning routines. Steve discusses his visual practice vs David discussing his spreadsheet style that clicks better with his own processes. You can’t just picture yourself in a Lamborghini and it just happens, you own one. This goal setting takes daily practice that builds to annual success. Steve highly recommends the physical documentation process of your goals.

Today’s Startup Co-Host(s)

David I met through what else, our love of networking professionally. David Gritz is an entrepreneur, real estate investor, public speaker, and marketing expert. He serves as the vice-President of Hatch House Ventures. David joined the company after leaving an influential corporate position in the IT space. In the past three years that he has worked for Hatch House Ventures, he has bought, sold, and rented out over 15 properties with revenues nearing $1M annually. His mandate is to search and acquire future Hatch House locations. He has also helped run a successful Kickstarter campaign for a high impact exercise mat called Perfect Burpee. That same Kickstarter project was how we first worked together. He wanted to run a fitness gala to promote his startup Kickstarter. I love the Kickstarter campaigns and I never thought I’d actually get involved in one. It just so happened that they had already run a gala event up in Boston and then they needed to run one here in the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. Since then we’ve been helping each out through mutual projects, networking events, and even helping to further motivate me to launch this Podcast.

Steve Boerner serves as the President and founder of Hatch House Ventures. He founded the company in November 2014, taking him around seven months to plan and execute. Steve is a serial entrepreneur who knows how to get and sustain success. He left the corporate world in 2013 after working for four years at Fortune 500 company. He also runs a consulting company called Gen-Y Consultants, which focuses on helping individuals and businesses market to millennials. Steve also works as an Adjunct Professor of Practice at the Horn School of Entrepreneurship at the University of Delaware.

Steve Boerner and David Gritz together run this exciting startup support project known as Hatch House Ventures. Did you know you can actually live among other startups to grow your community, networking, and overall supportive surroundings to launch a more successful business. We are working together, hit it off right and working together to support and promote their startup community.

As you can see, these two gentlemen are truly committed to taking their Virtual Incubator Network nationwide. As usual, this is a great insightful conversation packed with content and great ideas you can translate into your life to FUEL your internal fire.

Tune in and enjoy your dose of LIVETHEFUEL.

In this episode you’ll hear:

[01: 02] Everything you need to know about David Gritz and Steve Boerner.

[02:50] What excited them about LIVETHEFUEL and launching a podcast.

[04:44] Morning routines that they are pretty sure will help them stay consistent.

[08:02] What is unarrested power. How can it fuel your internal life?

[08:35] How you can manifest your vision. What these two gentlemen do to balance the health, business, and lifestyle concept.

[10:14] Tony Schwartz’s book: The Power of Full Engagement: Managing Energy, Not Time, Is the Key to High Performance and Personal Renewal

[14:30] How they have managed to work together and achieve success despite their differences in mindset and skillset.

[17:02] More about Hatch House Ventures and the achievements so far.

[18: 47] Struggles of being entrepreneurs in the traditional collegiate, rigid system.

[22:23] The number of companies that Hatch House is working with so far.

[23: 35] Why maintaining life balance during the startup phase is so important to battle stress.

[24: 25] Hatch House attracts a healthier, cooking from home atmosphere with different ethnic influences.

[27: 18] It’s emotional when people come and go, moving on with their journeys.

[29:25 ] Too much dependency on social media, kills numerous skills, chivalry is all but dead!

[36:20 ] A new book, Hello I’m Lost?

And Much, Much More

“We are the average of the five people we spend the most time with”, Jim Rohn

As someone who has been a serial entrepreneur, Steve Boerner is someone who is definitely trying to make a mark in this newer generation of startups. During our session, we moved from the morning routines right into the power of manifesting your future success.

You are truly the product of the five people you spend the most time with. Jim Rohn was a powerful mentor and this is just one of his famous quotes that we discussed.

The three of us get into some major differences between them that they’ve learned to use as a way to feed off of each others strengths vs weaknesses. Part of this lesson that we discuss also centers around how we all need to adapt to different learners. As professionals and even personally in our relationships we must recognize how people learn from us differently. A popular method to study is recognizing individuals differences with the VAK or Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic Learning Styles.

Use social media to your advantage. Control how you exist online and in business by pushing your own controlled content out over your own social media channels. Make sure you exist in the right way. LinkedIn is a great professional platform for just that, whether you’re an individual professional, a small business, or a major company.

Currently Hatch House has a network of 4 locations that are startup accelerators and incubators, as they do overlap right now. They do admit that they seem their niche in the industry pushing them more towards the accelerator business model. Bethlehem’s flagship location is one of the few locations that has the live in component. Not all Hatch Houses support the community residential model. This Lehigh Valley based location receives applications from all over the world for people to come stay here and work here for 12 months. The network here helps provide resources for professional networking, funding sources, and more.

They’ve since scaled their model into a licensing model to partner with higher education institutions so that these larger institutions can plug into the Hatch House resources while plugging in a working startup support model to their own campus offerings.

Open your circle of influence with Hatch House. A different spin on networking and growing your international connections from within a safe community of like-minded professionals. “It’s the only thing, nothing exists without that”.

For our startup residents, we look at their businesses to help them with their numbers, planning for employee growth, helping coach them on better hiring practices. They encourage collision within the house and online virtually between their Hatch House communities.

If you’re doing this right, everyone should have the best practices, be building lists, the best books, the best podcasts, the best network connections to fall back on and more.

Next steps are entrepreneurship courses, new services for the University customers, and a new book coming soon! Final notes from Steve and David. David leaves us with one core word, which is “Discipline”. Applying discipline in business, refine things into a process, you’ll get a more predictable outcome. Health can be improved through discipline through nutrition, exercise and the lifestyle you build within your network. Steve leaves us with the value of building “Habits”. We’re programmed to build habits. Your startup work must involve creating bulletproof consistency without even thinking about it. But it takes daily commitment to ensuring those tasks and activities build into those successful habits.

I’m your host Scott Mulvaney, a fellow Solopreneur and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to my first ever episode of the LIVETHEFUEL Show, here to FUEL Your Health, Business and Lifestyle!

Today’s Solopreneur Co-Host

This is my first co-host and it is none other than the podcasting solopreneur master himself, Mr. Michael O’Neal. Many of you have heard his story. If not, catch up with him at http://solohour.com. His award winning podcast, The Solopreneur Hour, has been up for several years now with over 8 million downloads! It features lively conversations, bold advice and candid insights for proudly unemployable people who want to realize full prosperity and fulfillment.

Michael interviews guests and co-hosts with the best and brightest solopreneurs from all walks of life. In this episode, we will give just a recap of his background.

Born in Ohio, Michael spent 12 years there being raised in a Catholic family. As a kid, he participated in every sport known to mankind from swimming and gymnastics to skating and cycling. At age 12, he moved with his parents to a new community in the suburbs of Philadelphia. They were fed up with many problems in this state, something that forced them to relocate to Spring Hill, a little redneck town in Florida.

Michael has dedicated his life to acquire formal education. He studied music in one of the best colleges in Palm Beach, FL. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from Temple University. Michael has also created and hosted several professional courses about internet marketing, web development and social media.

His journey to becoming a Solopreneur Master has not been as easy as you may think. He tried to do everything he could through 2008 but didn’t see much success in those life experiences. In 2009, Michael knew that he no longer wanted to trade a dollar for an hour, so he went looking for something else. That’s when he found the hidden treasures in network marketing and internet marketing. In August 2013, he started The Solopreneur Hour Podcast which aims to show the other unemployable people the correct path to business success on their terms.

And Much, Much More

Since this is my first show, I settled on Michael because he is my mentor. There were so many similarities that started overlapping with him which just made it easier for me to follow his feeds, content and click with him as a fellow Colorado resident to name one.

During our discussion, we talked a bit about how this show (LIVETHEFUEL) came to be, and the journey I’ve been on myself and my plans. The goal of this show is to FUEL people’s own internal fires. I chose those three categories: health, business, and lifestyle because I actually believe they all marry together quite nicely. People struggle in their businesses or working for other people’s businesses. They let their health and lifestyle fall to the wayside. So for this podcast, these are the three areas that I picked out from all of our primary life domains because I think they create a beautiful umbrella effect.

We talked about how Michael got his start, leveraging his experience with the car racing lifestyle, combined with some great lessons from marketing his podcast, The Solopreneur Hour, to the tasks he needs to do every day to be a successful solopreneur.

We then got into a great conversation about the lessons that we have learned from our past lifestyles. There are serious side effects of starting to do things to justify other things you want to spend or invest in your lifestyle. In fact, if there is any nugget to take from this show, this is the one.

Michael mentioned how instrumental the death of his parents has been in his life. He reflected a few times since then all the change he has gone through with the growth of the Solopreneur Hour show, growth of his business, coaching and mentorship stuff.

We also talked about acting and working in endurance mode. I think people let life overtake them and forget that they need time to complete many of life’s goals. If you are one of them, it’s time to click into that endurance mode and realize that you’re not going to win every single day at whatever you are doing whether it’s climbing, racing, running a business, marketing, etc. The biggest thing that I’ve taken out of all this experience so far is the endurance. Your body is capable of doing so much more. The brain controls everything. So if you’ve got a healthy mind, you’ll have a healthy body which directly impacts and helps you perform in business.

This is it. We are on our journey together. And I’m thrilled to be here with you.

Finally, I have a small request:

Thanks so much, and I’m looking forward to hearing your comments about this show below.
