Our Fish Out of Water co-host today is a Best-selling Author, Keynote Speaker, Social Media Entrepreneur and contributor to multiple online blogs. Finding your, ‘Why’ is not enough. Sometimes you need that something extra to push you over the edge. You have to keep fueling the fire to keep it alive. You don’t want to get ten years down the road and find the fire has been extinguished. Proving the impossible is possible is this episodes co-host.
At the beginning of 2015, he quit his corporate job, moved to California and began to reinvent himself. He wondered what life would be like in ten years if he didn’t fuel the fire of entrepreneurship inside of him. Not liking what he saw, Calvin Wayman pursued self-development and attended the “THRIVE: Make Money Matter” event in 2015. This changed his life forever. He has achieved quite a lot in the past year reinventing himself. He is now the founder & CEO at CobbesMedia, Author of Fish Out of Water, Writer at Social Media Examiner, The Huffington Post and at Entrepreneur Magazine. Reinvention never stops.

- [02:01] Calvin quit his job in early 2015 and attended Thrive later that year. Thrive gave Calvin a massive boost. He was finally around people like himself.
- [03:50] Calvin met somebody at Thrive who told him how to write for Entrepreneur Magazine. At the time of the Thrive event in 2015 the only thing he felt he had to offer was his knowledge on the live platform Periscope. He bagged his first client at the event, Tai Lopez who decided to buy his course.
- [04:45] The guy he met about Entrepreneur magazine was called Jeff Woods,
- [05:44] The first article he submitted to Entrepreneur Mag was about Periscope and it was rejected. After that Calvin thought, editors don’t want to read the whole article, they don’t have time to. So he decided to create an article pitch of the just the title and four super simple bullet points. Instead of just sending one, he sent three at once so they could pick which one they wanted.
- [07:44] Because he had already written for Entrepreneur Magazine Calvin found it easy to get into Huffington Post. He emailed them linking to his articles.
- [08:28] Social Media Examiner was the tough one to write for. They have a very strict entrance process. You have to send in three articles from three other places you have written for. It has to be around the topic you want to write about.
- [09:28] Calvin is from Utah. To shake up the norm he quit his day job and moved to Southern California and started to sell solar energy door to door, to shake off any feeling of being an employee that he might of developed. A mentor told him if you can do four months of Door to Door you probably can do pretty much anything.
- [11:38] Door to Door sales for him was one of the most gut wrenching, anxious, depressive things he has ever done in his entire life but he would not change it for anything because it taught him so much.
- [12:38] The Quarter Life Crisis. Calvin projected himself ten years into the future and thought, what if nothing has changed? And it scared him. He had this flame inside of him to go create something. But what if that flame inside of him dies, the wants and desires to be an entrepreneur dies.
- [16:36] What can you do to keep fueling the fire? Do you. Do what makes you happy. But never regret. You only regret the things you don’t do.
- [18:58] At this turning point, Calvin was married, had a one year old son and had $33k in debt.

- [39:51] Running a Ultra Marathon and Taking imperfect action.
- [42:31] Getting schooled. Using the Fish metaphor. Getting around other people swimming in the same direction.

- [58:58] Events have been one of the biggest hacks for him in the past year.

- [01:06:54] Take action and start building a following. You have to put in the reps to hone the message and services you provide. You need to be taking action but also you need to be patient with yourself as well.

You have got to realize you can create Roger Banister effects in all areas of your life.
Roger Bannister in 1954 was the first guy to run a four minute mile. For decades people tried to run a four minute mile but ultimately failed. It became well accepted that no human being could ever run a four minute mile. But then one person, Roger Banister did it. He made the impossible possible. The interesting part is, how long did his record breaking four minute mile last? Logic would say this could not be repeated. It took 46 days for it to be broken.
Once people see that it is possible, and that it can be done they can believe they can do it for themselves.
Done is better than perfect. Just do something.
